stupid person asking question about location of s/c

it just popped into my head about what the possibilties of mounting the supercharger on the other side of the engine would do. Obviously the supercharger is on the passenger side to run off the pulley, but couldnt that be fixed by just having a rod that turns it accross the engine like civic superchargers run off? that would mean not having the pipe on the hot radiator and getting the air quicker to the manifold(i know it will be hot as is due to compressing, but the piping woulnt be as heated). But then is it actually better to have more piping with the s/c? I'm just saying on the drivers side when all the stock intake manifold plumbing is taken out, that is a lot of open space that could easily be filled, and just having the cold air supercharger pipe run into the fender like a cold air intake would be easy. so is it better to have a shorter distance from the supercharger to the throttle body, or does the stretch across the engine actually benefit it besides resting on the hot radiator hosing? i know my questions are always hard to understand cuz i write a bunch of junk, but hopefully u get the picture im trying to make, i plan on boosting next year, and willing to try different roots(front mount, by pass piping, water injection) thanks. no flames, i know a good amount about mechanics, but just know the basics of boost

It's more of a question of why go to all that trouble to re-invent the wheel? I doubt the extra trouble would be worth whatever gains could be had by your theory.

But maybe if someone didn't want to pay Stealin' for their kit and just bought a V1/2 on their own...............

It's been done on some Civics and on a Mazda Mx6.

try roots type blower from Eaton, if you ever go with your idea.

i agree about trying to make something better, i just felt with dealing with the heat issues, and filling up a more compact space would in my opinion be worth it, plus no relocations of washer fluids or anything that some people have done. The only negative i can see is that of less piping, which in my knowledge, i do not know if more or less piping is needed to make the super charger work better, i assumed long piping equals pressure drop. Does my idea seem that far off? please i encourage criticism, im tryin to figure this out

Assuming you want to do this for the ONLY reason to improve proformance. Would the $$$$ required to develope, make at least 1,2,3 prototypes and test such a system be worth whatever gains that theorically could be had?? Let's say it costs $1500 to get this done. Would it be worth let's say 5 hp and the convenience of not relocating stuff?

But again, if you want to do this to avoid Stealin's prices, I think it's a good idea. I've thought about that for our 3 gens.

The Comptech side setup on the Accords is nice. They've got the Eaton blower on the right, with the pipe going across. It looks really clean.

that was basically the setup i was thinking about, but im not gonna do it for $hits and giggles, i just wanted to know if its been done or worth doing. seems like it could be significantly cheaper, but then again, the only truly thing im wondering is if it is bad to have a shorter pipe on a s/c, thats rilly the main thing im concerned about, why would i waste money if it will hurt it, anybody know if minimum piping is needed

I see 2 major problems with this:

1) Using a rod inherently would cause parasitic loss beyond what the belt already does.

2) Where would you bolt the SC up to? There's no engine plate on that side of the car. It's all Solenoids and Fuel Lines and such.

Beat the heat!

If you are worried about heat. Here is one sik option. Another would be a shot of nitrous (with the benefits of more HP). I think it would be too much of hassle trying to improve this setup. I think if you want to toy with f/i get a turbo. That's my opinion.
