R.I.P 97blk GLE August16, 1996 - August 18,2002

I posted sunday night that my max was stolen. well it was found this morning on 4 concrete blocks. No wheels, no seats, no door panels,no airbags, no center console, no armrest, no intake,no seatbelts and all wires were cut. doesn't take too much of an appraiser to figure out that this car is a total loss. I loved my max and all but thats that. I'ma miss him. anyway when i got over it i went looking for a new car. I don't know if i should stay in the 97-99 max range go for a financed 5th gen or get the car of my wet dreams (which i can afford in the near future)...a 1993-1996 Lexus GS300. i saw a 1994 today and i think thats what i'm gettin. what u guys think. I would post some pics of the striopped up max but i aint got a digital camera. but if you really wanna see what it looked like picture a maxima with no wheels laying flat on the ground (thats about as low a drop as you can get) then you open the door and all you see is an instrument cluster with no instruments...just vast amounts of space which allow a perfect view of the components behind the airbags radio etc. etc. then you look back and you see no seats no a or b pillar and no back seat just a hole displaying the trunk thats what they did poor MAX.

If the GS is really the car of your dreams, get it. You should have posted this in the General Forum though, most 4th Gen owners are a little biased.

Not at all. The GS300 will be lucky to hit mid 7's...a 4th Gen auto max should take it off the line and hold the lead all the way. A 4th Gen stick Max would destroy it.

Now the GS400 is a totally different story....

my friend has a 1994 GS300, and it feels heavy (it is about 3700 lb). at speed its ok, but driving it back to back with my 1996 max - its not a comparison. i think it also has 190 (possibly 220 hp) in its I-6. too heavy, too sluggish. nice cruiser though.

The car's a dog. I used to work for Lexus.. trust me there slow. I always thought they were good lookig cars though. I have seen them with twin turbo setups. And maybe if you did a 5sp conversion

GS300 share same engine as NA supra, so they have quite a bit of stuff that works for them. Lot of the NA Supra and IS300 Turbo kits could fit the GS300 with minor modifications, not to mention that the 6spd Getrag off a Supra TT could probably be made to fit too. Only downside to GS, its horrendous weight.

what was the price tag on the GS? Is it possible to instead get the lowest priced 5spd 4th gen and put in a turbo? You could probably do all that with a 4th gen for under $12-15k

i noticed ur other thread got locked.

well, i dont think the gs300 looks better than the 4th gen max, but that's jus my opinion...and i dont think the gs300 is faster than a 4th gen auto...the max should be a bit faster but not by much cus of the weight difference..no matter wat the GS is a great car, but i wouldn't want one unless its the gs400 or 430
btw, i also like the 93-96 gs model better than their new model

Sorry to hear about your max

I always really liked the styling of the previous-gen GS's. To me, even though the GS400s are fairly sporty (the 300s, less, obviously), they're more of a stylish car that I wouldn't be big on mobbin out in - I'd do a lot more slow & steady cruisin in a ride like that, and would probably concentrate any mods on stereo rather than performance or styling.

You seem to be concerned primarily on performance so perhaps the GS isn't the best bet for you (especially the 300).

My comment about you being a "Fanatic" was referring to your status on Maxima.org. It's obvious that you have been on in the Forums for a while because of your number of posts. Mid-7's is the 0-60 time, and with you being on site for a while, I figured you would have known that by now. Oh well not a big deal.

even the 2k and up 300's are fairly slow. my brother has a 2001 and i have been beating him in my 96 auto every time we race. stock for stock. i'll be getting my frankencar soon and then my Y-pipe, so we'll see how it goes...

Settle down...I was thinking about the new GS's when I posted...I didn't know the older ones were slower. The new GS300's do 0-60 in around 7.7 and the 1/4th in high 15's.

I dont know if i would cross over to an older GS. I agree they look cool, but like a coulpe other people have said if you have some performance ideas in mind you might as well kiss that idea goodbye... its like tuggin' a boat...
Aim for something lighter in the same price range.. 300ZX? Close price range, look smooth and a great aftermarket... just my thoughts

still Sh!tty what happened to your car..
