How hight up the temp gauge should the thermostat needle be? Is halfway too far? Also how long should the endgien stay hot after avout 20 minutes of driving?

I've had my Max for almost two years and the temp gauge is always a hair (and I mean a hair) below half...I've had no overheating problems... [knocks on wood]

hmm

I live in Arizona and when temp is 116F the temp stays right in the middle. It always stays in the middle even if is cold. So my answer is the middle is just fine.
