beat by fellow maxima....

I was on the thruway tonight going to my aunts house, and a maxima came flying up behind me, it was a 97-99 model, the only mod I could tell he had was a muffler and it was lowered, we were dead even and then both took off, he kept pulling on me and I never caught up with him and let off at 90. I only have the intake, but unless he had some more mods, I wouldnt think he'd be that much faster with the rear section.

yes I am auto, and I think he was stick based on the way the shifts looked......he had some ***** too, he was going about 100mph past the ny state trooper station. I'm sure that made a difference too with the trannies....either way i think he had some more mods

how fast were you going when you started the race. if he dropped a gear or two, he would have left you standing still.

Then something is wrong with your car. Take it to a dealer and get it checked.

Most people here will tell you it should either be a VERY close race or the 4th Gen will win. I myself have raced a '00 automatic and I pulled kept my 1 car lead on him up to 60MpH. I only have HAI.

I've never raced our other max, but i drive it a lot, and i can feel A LOT more power in it, plus i can smoke the tires like hell, i can only get a little tiny squeel out of my 95

i raced a 2000 auto with my, at the time, stock 97 5 spd. i beat him. i am not saying that it can't happen, i am just saying that the max should beat him both being auto.

Well if you take them head to head you will see. You may be able to spin the tires easier because they are cheaper and don't have as much traction, but nonetheless it is NO faster than yours.

ok well it sure as hell feels faster......i'm not going to argue. i am a dumb *** when it comes to racing, i always try to take on things waaaaay out of our class (M3's, Camaros, mercedes AMG....its just for fun) I would just have to say that with oh 30 more horses that it can surely pull on mine. I'll have to try a head to head race in our max's sometime soon

here is what i do know, with my stillen intake, or from whatever reason, i dont have as much low end power in first gear (i'm hoping that midpipe might fix it) so as my car is now, the 2k can take me.

Like I said I have an HAI too and I still took that Max. You should pull up him up high RPMs because you can rev higher than he can. Like I said if you are honestly getting smoked then something is wrong with your car. Wait a little while and hopefully somebody will back me up here. BTW the guy I raced is asianracer2004 on AIM, so when he logs on you can ask him the outcome of his race with Cyrus. He's not on now though and I doubt he'll log on until tomorrow.

I understand but you say the 2k Max should be able to roast you. It should not. So something might be wrong with you car (KS, clogged filter, etc.). Also I hope I didn't just start a flame war...

I use Valvoline All-Climate. I'm not the man to talk to about Oil analysis, but this might help you.

As for the flame war, you never know when the 5th Gens might find this thread. I don't want another one of these episodes (although that thread might interest you). If you KS was failing you car would be very sluggish and the Check Engine light would pop on (I believe).

Yes I agree, but I'm glad to see you picked the 4th Gen. I couldn't care less what the reason is, just glad to see another supporter. And I like the interior of the 5th Gen a little more too.

not to be picky....but on those comparasins, an 84 vette sucks, they have no value, so the older one is probally better

although, i wouldnt mind having 255hp stock on hand either

I really hate when people say "No way, it's got X more HP it would take you out!" Power to weight ratio is what matters, and the 4th Gen max has the edge here. A '95 Max would take a 2k off the line easily and beat it to sixty. It is roughly .2-.4 faster 0-60 then the 2k auto. Fatness and a revv limiter kill the 2k. 2k auto max = Torqueless wonder

Just becuase YOU can't take one doesn't mean 4th Gens aren't quicker. Your car could have many problems...could have dirty air/fuel/oil filters, bad knock sensors, bad plugs, ect. If your car doesn't feel faster off the line then a 2k, check your throttle body becuase it might be gunked up. If it's really dirty it will hinder some performance. The 2k will have significantly less wear on it then your '95, so some major tune-ups may be needed.

You see venompwr2, Craig obviously didn't see my post on the previous page, yet he gave you more or less the same diagnosis I did.
