Is the frontier engine a VQ?

I was curious if the frontier engine is the same as ours......I think it is plus the supercharger. I have this idea that maybe that supercharger can be fit on our car, if so put a different pully on it and possibly get some nice gains. Just a thought......

Sorry, I am bored at work and getting crazy ideas.

no and no. It is a VG33E and how would you fit the 8-10in tall SC on the manifold? Would you spend $4k in making it fit?

The engine in the Frontier is actually a 3.3 litre SOHC that has no power and eats lots of gas. I'm saying this because before i had the max, i owned a 98 Pathfinder and it also had the same crappy engine.

The pathfinder is 3800lbs, any maxima with that much weight would get around the same fuel economy. The VG33 is basically a bored VG30, so some parts are interchangeable. Its boost friendly too .

Nope, the Frontier, Xterra & the pre 3.5 Pathfinders have the "VG" 3.3L engine. Not a bad engine but could be "improved" upon besides adding a S/C to it.

AFAIK & OT, the Infiniti J-30 has the VG engine but in a DOHC 24-valve design

You should have searched, because this has been discussed several times before.

The Frontier and X-terra superchargers are roots type blowers, so you would have to get a custom hood scoop to fit it, not to mention the piping and fitment modifications.

I wish a roots type blower kit was available for the Maxima.

It's ok...I don't mind answering the same questions it would just allow you to waste less of your time and get your answers faster...I search alot becuase it helps me, not becuase "this thread takes up space" who cares what the tight wad members think.

Just try to imagine a roots type blower...all that power available at low low RPM's...much more torque then a centrifical blower...I sure would love to drive around town feeling like I am in a Camaro SS.

Someone call Eaton and tell them to make us one

Search is my friend too man, I know what your saying, like I said I didn't think that would have been covered since that engine is fairly new. Not sure of the difference, between the two, I have an idea though...elaborate? BTW, a guy I work with has a SS that runs low 12's....holy crap that thing moves, too bad GM is axing the muscle car line.

The S/C VG 3.3L has 210hp & 240lb/ft. of torque

The 3rd Gen Maxima's have the VE engine, not VG, the Infiniti J-30 has the VG engine, I'm sure a S/C can fit on a 3rd Gen Max (correct me if I'm wrong)

Here is a list of engine codes Nissan & Infiniti uses, this may help you out a bit

the 3rd gen's from 89-91 all had VG engines...the 92-94 SE models had VE, the 92-94 GXE's had the VG also..
