Stillen Catback - theory on loudness

Quieted down my Stillen Catback, sort of.... need some advice also!!
I installed this Catback about three months ago on my car. This plus my Warpspeed Y makes my car too loud. I have also discovered that this setup is louder on my car than on Redmaxpa007's car.

I finally, along with my wife got the $hits of the noise.

I decided to go to my local exhaust shop, Miles Muffler in York, PA and ask them for some options. They recommended that I add a resonator to the rear of the Cat Converter.

I asked him about the difference in volume between my car and others.
He told me that my stock cat could be contributing to the increase in volume (compared to other cars with the exact same setup with the exception of the Stock Cat). As the exhaust gases come down the y pipe they hit the stock cat and get obstructed creating an increase in volume.

Anyone have any experience with Y, catback and stock cat? Does this sound correct. Seems to be logical.

I did install the resonator and noticed a difference most noticeably at idle annd when cruising.

It is still loud while accelerating, WOT etc. but not quite as loud.

Anyway, does anyone know if the stock cat will increase noise due to being more restricitve?

Thanks
DL

Did the resonator eliminate the buzz noise at about 5k when the car is de-cellerating? I dont even know if that is a word By the way I hve the same exact setup as you only on a 96.

it won't much of a difference. If you want to tone it down, you'd need a more effective inline resonator to dampen the low end frequency.

Not totally relevant but my boy used to have a really really loud custom exhaust on his Coupe GT. When he bought a new coupe he wanted to put the exhaust on, but he just couldn't stand the noise and the insane droning on the highway. He ended up going back to the shop where he got it, and the guy convinced him to try putting a resonator on instead of getting a new, quieter exhaust. The resonator worked perfectly, the car still sounds badass now, but it's not so crazy loud and doesn't really drone on the higway any more. Below 3k RPM's is "stealth mode" too...the car sounds like any other stock exhaust car...

FWIW...

I did have them put in an in line resonator

It did help alot! It took the angry drone away and the only time I really notice the noise is at WOT!

The resonator did help a lot. Definitely not stock but not overwhelming.

Will I keep it this way? Not sure at this point. I got a great price on it used from an .org member out of New York state.

Anyway, thought I would share the feedback for anyone else with the Stillen catback and Warpspeed Y!!!!
