Battery Corrosion

I was getting a lot of that blue powder corrosion around my positive connector. I changed the battery, got a red top Optima, cleaned the connectors and now two days later, I see it starting to buildup again.
Do I need to change the connectors too? The factory connector looks like it has the grip of death on the wires. Is that going to be hard to undo?
What else could be causing that blueish corrosion?

Use some baking soda/powder? with some water to clean up the terminals. This will neutralize the acid/corrosion.

One of the easiest ways to prevent battery outgassing and subsequent corrosion is to install those little felt terminal rings onto the battery. They are like 99 cents at your local auto shop, and usually come in green and red.

Residual acid left on the cables I bet.

Unhook it. Spray the metal part of the connectors with brake cleaner. Don't get it on your paint. It should dry quickly. Wipe it completely clean with a rag. Make a weak solution of baking soda and water. Rub the cables down again with the solution. Clean this off now. Clean the posts on the optima too, carefully.

I bought some terminal rings, but since the top of the Optima isn't flat like the stock battery around the posts, it doesn't fit very well. Also, after cleaning it, I put some Dylectic grease on the terminals and it still came up. I need to get new conncectors, 'cause this is ridiculous...

As someone already said...Baking Soda / Water (lots) and an OLD toothbrush. Take the terminals OFF. Scrub / Clean them inside and out. It will turn brown color keep cleaning until white color. Then WASH the whole thing off with WATER!! The re-attach your battery connectors push down and tighten with a wrench. Then Take some vaseline and spread a little around the connectors.

Make sure than NONE of that stuff goes into the cells or openings in the battery. Wash it off frequently until you are finished.

That should do it for 6 mos at least.

Oh I nearly forgot...a light coating of lithium grease on the terminals also helps prevent corrosion.

Is it hard to remove the connectors from the wire? I bought some new ones and would like to replace them.
