I would try to fish it out with a spring hook or a pick up claw before I went to a mechanic. A pick up claw opens up when you push down on the button on the other end. Most people use it to pick up nuts and bolts that land in the worst places when you drop them. This is "Murphy's Law of Selective Gravitation". I also think 2 hours might be optimistic.

I would still try the pick up claw, the grommet can't go to far down as it will be stopped by the cylinder head. I would guesstimate 3 inches, thats all.

yeah there was only one thread in which this was mentioned, and the guy who got it stuck ended up taking it apart, which i may have to do, has anyone actually done this, and how long will it take? i hear the upperintake manifold may take about 3 hours, otherwise the rest takes a additonal half hour

I'd empty the shop vac first so I could tell if it got the grommet out.

I got my upper intake manifold off in about 25 minutes. I think getting the valve cover off might take longer than that.

But, you could get it done in one Saturday afternoon for sure...

I had discussed this about 2 months ago after this happened to me and RI-Max. I was able to fish it out with a hanger. I also tried using a shop vac but not sure if it helped. Keep trying to fish it out. I was able to get it up to the hole then use needle nose to bring it all the way out.

good luck,

boo
