Tires that protect your rims

I noticed on a lot of new tires, they have a lip or something (forgot what its called) to protect your rims from getting scratched up on curbs and such. Does anyone have any of these tires/know if they work?

Also on the tire subject, does anyone have the new BFGoodridge g-Force T/A kdw. I'm wondering how good they really are?

thanks
Rich

I have Sumitomo HRT+ 225-50-ZR16 on stock 98 SE rims, and the protection seems to be adequate. I am not about to test it out, but the look of it makes me believe that minor rubbing would be avoided with ehr "lip guard" that is built into the tire...

a lot of the more expensive cars have these tires stock(mercedes, bmw, so on) and from driving them, i find that it does help some, but if you really curb it, no tire will protect it. i don't care how big of a lip it has. the trick is to stay away from curbs

A lot of Dunlop's performance tires have this. I can't really say whether it worked well or not (since I had them on stock rims) but my SP Sport 9000's had it, and I know the 8000's had it too.

As long as they work to protect from minor run ins w/ the curb, i think i mite want to look for that on my next tires. I've only hit a curb once, and it was pretty minor, but it still scrapes up the rim, and doesn't exactly look pretty.

thanks

Yes it does work but not on every wheel has to do with the lip of the wheel where the beeds of the tire sit on.On some wheels the curb protecter will come out and on some it wont.

The rim protectors work very well on the Potenza S-O3s.
