button under the clutch pedal ??

as some of u may know, i just got my 95 se a week ago, and am wondering about the buttun under the clutch pedal. i assume this is to make sure the clutch is down when u start. i want to know if i can tape this button down, because i want to cut off that little tab on the pedal that hits the button, cuz my shoes always gets stuck on it and it is very annoying if not dangerous. has anyone tried this? would there be any problems if i were to tape it down? like if the computer would cut power cuz the clutch is down? the pedal looks like hardened steel, but my dremel should be able to get this off. im going to try taping the button down and driving around b4 i cut off the tab to see if i notice anything unusual.

thanks

That botton is for the starter kill. The car will not start unless you push it in. Taping it up should be fine, but remeber not to start your car when in gear and no clutch!

I have related problem. I put my foot on the dead pedal so I don't ever get my foot stuck under the clutch. However, every now and then, my floor mats slide forward, and the tab gets caught on the mat, and lifts the mat up, so I have to use my left foot to shoo away the mat that is hung up on the clutch pedal.

I tried taping the button down, it doesn't work long. I took the whole switch out and spliced the wires that went to it together. Just remember the car will start if it's in gear now.
