max with 112k, is PENNZOIL oil for cars over 100k good or bad oil for my max??

pennzoil makes an oil for cars over 100k , i have 112k on my max and was wondering if this oil is good to use for my car, or should i just use syntetic, even though i am broke

has anyone used this in their max??

If it's in good running order, I see no real need to change. Get your oil analyzed by Blackstone labs(do a search) and see how your oil is performing. If you are really that curious, get a mechanic to do a compression and leakdown test also.

No one here can really comment on what oil to really use because no one knows the condition of your engine of your engine. It could be almost new inside or all beat up. Depends on how you treat it and how you serviced it.

If you're broke, as we all once were, just use a good name brand regular dino oil like Castrol GTX 5w30 and change it every 3-5k. Use an OEM filter. Sure synthetic would be better, but quite frankly probably not that much better if you change it frequently and don't beat the hell out of your engine.

Save the Mobil 1 for when you buy a new Max(or Porsche).

Pennzoil..never again. I used synthetic pennzoil once, stepped on the acclerator and smoke came out (oil burned). Switched back to mobil 1 and never happened again. Pennzoil sucks. wouldnt reccommend it (at least synthetic)

Aren't Penzoil and Quaker State under the same corporate umbrella now??

According to Bill's spreadsheet, if you're going to use dino oil, it looks like the Castrol GTX would be your best bet.

Pennzoil has wax in it and will build up inside your engine, so don't use that. I say use Castrol GTX, IMO, it's the best non-synthetic oil.

There's nothing wrong with Pennzoil. The next spreadsheet update includes a member here who has used it exclusively for 100k miles with 3k interval changes. He just recently switched to Amsoil, but his lab analysis came back quite beautiful for an engine with over 100k on it. But he didn't beat the crap out of it also.

I think such contentions against Pennzoil are unfounded. That being said, I would use Castrol GTX.

Pennzoil's full synthetic looks to be a BAD choice based on baseline analysis results. In many ways it looks WORSE than good dino oils such as Castrol GTX, etc.

I wonder what they do to make it "formulated for higher mileage".
Maybe its all just the same stuff with a different label on the container

Maybe they just add some weight or viscosity to make it leak less past the piston rings. Probably no different than just buying the "regular" oil with a heavier weight.

If you want an intelligent and lab proven answer, click here:

The spreadsheet has Baseline oil analyses of Castrol GTX and Castrol GTX "High Mileage". Suffice to say it is a marketing gimmick to get you to spend $2.20/quart on oil instead of $1.80/quart.
