ok, i know they always tell you to put the best gas in your max. what is it, the super stuff or whatever. what i want to know is this, does it REALLY make a difference man. i mean i am a college student here so i want to know what exactly spending more money will do for my car and vice versa.

also, is it true that when you get gas its good to fill it up everytime. again, im a college student so i put like 10 bucks at a time. thanks for any help.

First off where do you live? Your altitude affects the need for premium gas. I live in Iowa and I only notice a milege difference when I am on a road trip. In town driving does not seem any different with 89Octane or 92octane. If you live in lower altitudes such as the coasts then yes you should see a milege and power difference

Putting mid-grade or even (god forbid) regular gas into your Max won't harm it. They're all equipped with knock sensors that will retard the timing of the engine if detonation is possible. That said, on hot days and if you're at a high altitude you will notice a performance difference with the high-octane gas simply because the engine doesn't have that reason to restrict itself. So to answer your question, you can get away with mid-grade, just put in an occasional fuel treatment (some sort of cleaner that premium gas usually comes with) to keep everything relatively nice in the fuel system.

Use Premium
Well, do a search on Gas and you should find plenty of discussion on this. To sum it all up if your owners manual says to use premium gas for maximum performance then that is what you should use. The maxima has a knock sensor and using lower grand gas will cause your car to (I believe it is) retard the timing so it doesn't knock. So you will not be getting maximum gas mileage or performance out of your car. As for as filling your tank up, as for as I know that is an "Old Wife's Tell" I think if you just put $10 your car will be lighter = better gas mileage, but probably not enough to tell a difference. (I feel up every time so I can check my gas mileage.) Hope this helps

It's good to fill the tank completely in the wintertime (if it gets cold where you live) because condensation will develop on the inside of the gas tank, and water in your gasoline is bad.

Premium is good
I dunno, i've never allowed anyone to put non premium gas in my Maxima.

Here in Canada we have 3 grades, 89, 92 and 94. We used to have 87 but that cheap stuff got removed.

In my moms car, we once went cheap and put in 89, and the car started to majorly hesitate when firing, so we never tried anything else after that.

But who knows, i've heard people say all the gas comes in one huge tank and they dont separate it, so it could all be 89 grade gas coming from 3 separate pumps.

I generally put in 15 - 20 dollars at a time, so i dont commit to the high gas prices, in case it drops (yeah right!)

Put Premium
Sure the Maxima has a knock sensor but for that to work, which also reduces performance, it has to already have started knocking. This little bit of wear on the engine might not seem like much because, hey i have a knock sensor, buy over time it takes a toll on the engine. It's all cumulative.

okay
i am a college student also so i understand money issues
BUT

Whats the difference gonna cost you

regular 1.58
premium 1.68
it's gonna colst you now more than 2 dollars more to put premium in your car .. $2 dollars..
and the advantages of premium gas greatly outweight the extra money for it ..

Premium will make this car last and last
forever!!! And it'll make it go like crazy.
The expenses saved with this simple preventive maintenance, are astounding.
Do you girl a favor. Treat her like a lady.
The High octane can make you faster.
But the expense is unreal and really does nothing for you other than on that single tank. Use premium and spend you $ elsewhere. -This car is fast as is.

If you don't want to pay for premium fuel, then you shouldn't have gotten a premium car. You knew the assignment before you accepted the mission.
