Which grade of oil is best?

I have a 97 with 26,100 miles. I have always taken the car to nissan for oil changes. I decided to start doing it myself. What grade of oil and what brand should I use?

Thanks

Why?

Out of all the oils, Amsoil 10W/30 tastes best and goes GREAT with cereal.

Cliff Notes:

Dino oil:

Castrol GTX 5W/30
Drain Interval: 5k

Synthetic oil:

Mobil 1 5W/30
Drain interval: 10k with 5k oil filter change

Oil Filters:

Nissan OEM
STP S6941 (at AutoZone)

Mobil 1 has the reputation of being the best, it's what I use.

Whatever, my information doesn't come from maxima.org, it comes from various other sources. If it came from the Org I wouldn't have bothered posting anything. I could go into a long explanation, but I definitely won't bother now...the quick synopsis is "Mobil 1".

Actually, I'd much rather see the long explanation. Your reasons why would be much more preferrable than a blanket statement like you made before. I'm sure it will go a lot further with some others on the board as well.

Mobil 1 isn't the best because it is the best oil. It's the best because it is a good product and is readily available.

I could go into a real long explanation, but I doubt few would comprehend and understand the empirical background and reasoning.

Driven normally or "hard/normally" use 5w30 weight and change the filter each time.

As far as brand you might as well ask "which religion is right?".

I use Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic every 5k or so.
