third brake light question

i don't have a spoiler, but my third brake light broke some how. it doesn't stay in the slot it's supposed to, so it's kinda crooked. would i jus be able to take it out and put a covering piece over the hole? would that still be legal? i have a black leather interior, i believe the part number i need is 999M1-8J004. is this correct? thanks guyz.

Can't help you with the part number issue >>

But I know for a fact that all car models sold after 1984 require the middle third brake light. You need to fix yours...it's the law.
