Aftermarket thermostat?

I know the stock is 180 degrees. Does anybody make a 160 degree thermostat for a 96 SE?

You could probably pick one up at Pepboys or something.

I doubt it since the temperature effects emissions.

I have seen lower temperature thermostats sold with computer chips for Chevys and Fords, but nothing for imports; supposedly you can pick up a few horsepower.

If you do find one, make sure that it is fail-safe, i.e., fail open. Most of the non-OEM are fail closed.

LIke he said...effects the ECU. This is much easier back in the day with the classic cars.

On a similar note, I'm planning on trying to install a manual fan switch on my car. If it works, I'll document it.
