i've seen a lot of 97-99s for anywhere between $6k-$10k..of course most have salvage titles. The best place you can buy a car is from a bitter ex girlfriend who wants to get rid of her ex's car and will sell it for nothing. It happened to my best friend...he saw a 90 300ZX for $4200...got there and the girl gave it to him for $2k

God bless bitter ex girlfriends with their former others' cars for sale

Some shady people have begun to use this scenario to try to cover up a (potential) problem when they sell their car for really cheap. I was one time helping my buddy find a used Accord (shame on me ) and we came across this one lady who had a 98 Accord EX-V6 for like $15,000 CA. She said she got it in a divorce settlement and had no interest in the car and she would "rather let a private buyer pick it up than see a dealer buy it and make 5 grand off it." It sounded too good to pass up. She pointed out the milage was all highway because the car repeated went from Alberta to Portland and was in no accident.

After calling her back to confirm everything was fine, her story began to change. She told us the car went from British Columbia to Ontario, but the car came from Quebec (found out from CarFax) What also bothered us was that the car was posted in the paper for well over two weeks, and no one decided to jump on this exceptional deal?

In B.C. you can insure a car only after it has went through AirCare (emissions-test) but this Accord never went through AirCare so the car wasn't even properly insured and according to the insurance agent, may have been a stolen vehicle. We walked away from this seller right away.
A really weird experience...

Good point...i've seen it happen many times. With the Z, we checked it out and it had been keyed before (she explained she was furious one time and took her anger out on the car). A common friend of ours would do the whole straightening out of existing dents and repaint for cost of materials only... the car also had a vaccuum leak, and a few electrical problems. One year later, it runs great and has a total of under $5k that my friend has put in (including cost of car). In this case she let us drive it around and we had our little group of quasi-experts so it all worked out fine. (knocks on wood)

i am also warry on the car as well because i found out not to long ago that my car was totaled in 1999, and my dealer never told me about it. so i got my car at a fair price and thought, "yes, finialy a phat car!" later my friend buys a carfax membership, and just for kicks we ran my car. 6 pages later i have a hole **it load of stuff that was recoreded. anything between accident, re-registered in mass, odometer rollback and other stuff. needless to say i was quite furious when i found out.

so i just recently went back to him, explained it to him, and he aggreed to take my car back, and give me more money then what i paid for it. so now i finally get to buy a 5spd!! no more automatic!!! yay! guess it all worked out for the best...
