In-dash 6 CD changer question

I ran across this unit online and wonder what you guys think of it. I am looking to replace my stock radio without spending a ton of money. The Ad claims:

Product ID: maz-ddin-eom
Product: Mazda OEM Double Din Cassette/ 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer
Our Price: $ 229.99
- OEM Packaging
- Universal wire harness included
- Cassette player
- 6-DISC In-Dash CD Changer
- AM/FM Tuner
- Dimensions: 4-3/4"H x 7-1/2"W x 7"D
Will fit most Mazda, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, or any other car with a double din location

http://www.carstereomall.com/store/s...h=maz-ddin-eom

I know there are a lot of other double din units out there for around $300.00 bucks, but the changer got my attention. I thought the price was reasonable too. I measured the opening in my 96 GXE, the height and width are about 1/2" smaller than the dimensions listed for this unit. Anybody have an idea if this unit should fit my car.

Help is appreciated

Since you are getting Mazda OEM stuff, why not save yourself about 100 bucks and buy a Nissan OEM 6 disk in-dash changer. It just is a perfect fit guaranteed (obviously, since it's Nissan) and just plugs in directly to the non-bose player.

I Just bought one from ebay a few hours ago for $119.00 and there's more available.

Holy Crap. There were 3 more of these available when I got mine and now all 3 of them are sold with the "buy it Now". Ckeck the link below and you may wanna email the seller and see if he has any more available.

Kushane, I have a 96' GXE with a pocket below the radio. You're saying this changer plugs directly into the existing radio. How do you select the CD function, I didn't think the factory deck could control a cd changer.

I did email the Ebay seller to see if he has any more. Thanks.

Genuine Nissan 6-CD changer

My gone 96 GXE had radio/tape only. I bought the same Nissan 6-CD changer brand new from Grubbsauto.com for $119 shipped to my door. It IS a plug and play. It came with cables. Only screw driver was needed for installation. How to select CD? Just push one of the 6 CDs and it'll start to play, no matter the radio is playing or not.

this probably won't work with a BOASE will it? I already have the double DIN unit. I don't think it would plug in. If I can get the infiniti head unit and use it with the change that would probalby work.

I'm looking to buy the mazda 6cd changer on ebay also. it's $150. The subaru WRX changer is also on ebay for the same price. If you're daring, you'll try the Ford one, but dunno if it'll fit right. You just need to get the right adaptors from Schoch, but in your case, your $229 already comes with one.
The mazda/panasonic and subaru both but out more wattage than the stock deck. Plus they're newer, so the radio isn't likely to die as soon as the stock one will.
I'm also looking for the Eclipse 6cd single din changer/receiver, but it's about $400.

[B]jiaxima96[B], thanks for the info. I feel a little safer buying the indash changer. I assume the wiring harness from the car plugs into the cd changer, and the harness from cd changer plugs into the tape deck, is that right? I still find it amazing that Nissan would make a backward compatible cd changer.

How did you get the changer for $119.00 from Grubbsauto.com. I went to the site and its listed for $600 and change. I just hope to catch another one on Ebay. There are also a bunch of factory tape decks for sale around $20-30. So you can get changer and a deck for around $150.00. Not bad for retaining the factory look and the convenience of a indash changer.

Now the next question is can you put a later model (99-01)tape deck into the 96 Max? I am a bit hesistant to buy a used deck out of a 96', its probably had its useful life already.

[B]ThurzNite[B] I am leaning toward this Nissan changer vs. the Mazda. The Mazda 'double din' seems to be larger than the opening in the Maxima, so I don't want to take any chances.

MP3 CD Changer

I wanted a changer too, but I didn't want to play $600 for the dealer changer, or $300 for the compatible US Spec one either. (6 Disks)

Instead I bought a sony 10 Disks MP3 changer and installed it on the trunk, with a control display on the front. It's FM modulated, but to be honest, it's almost impossible to tell the difference (I only have the original Bosse system) The amount of music that I have at my finger tips is simply ridiculous (about 2 000 songs)

I have all the music I own, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Rock, Rap, R&B, hip-hop, Regge, Classical music (hey, I need to use the space), even Disney songs. And I still have room left -

I calculated the time I spend on the car, with commute and weekend trips: I can listen to the radio without ever having to listen to a song twice, for 7 months HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA (sorry, the joy)

Hi sgoyal,
I bought it about a year ago. Later their price went back up. Yes the wiring harness is very easy to connect. Each connector is different so it's impossible to make mistake. And instruction is provided.

I just bought a tape/radio unit out of a 2000 GXE on Ebay. Even though I'm not sure it'll fit in to my 96 GXE, the price was too good to pass up, only $12.50.

While I wait for the unit to arrive, I am just curious, has anyone put a 2000 unit into a 1996? (GXE stock radio ofcourse)

Thanks

myiqis180,

I want to go the same route. Did you get Sony CDX-565MXRF for around $200? Who wants traditional CD changer with 6CDs when you can have 150-200 hours of music. How did you install it? Did you need to wire anything or it is just plug and play?

Yeah, that's the same one I got. I paid about $260 for mine. I bout it at crutchfield.com

You need two antena adapter (about $12 for both, I think). It's RF so you only connect it to the antena. I place my controler inside the little compartment under the radio, so everything is wired from behind the dash (no hanging wires or controler). It's neat because when the door is closed, you can't tell there's anything there.

If you need any info, on how to install it, I can tell you how.

Just yesterday, I also ordered a 6 cd in-dash changer from this guy. ($129 shipped) I also checked his selling history on Ebay, he has already sold a bunch of them and customers seem to be happy.

In addition I found a radio/tape unit from a 2000 Maxima for $12+shipping. I am waiting for the changer before installing everything. If it all works, its not a bad set up for under $150.00.

ok, since i just won this:

Here's some info. The WRX and several other subarus have 6cd in dash changers. They will work in our cars if you buy a $15 schoch harness and don't require external amps. They are standard dbl-din so any 3rd or 4th gen max will fit, and any 5th gen with metra dash kit will fit. The units go for $150-250.

The other one I was looking at is the mazda unit off the MP3 and Protege. Those will fit also since they're standard dbl din and don't require external amps. You can get those for $130+ship.

If you don't mind, check out 2001 Xterra and Altimas for the 6cd in dash dbl-din on www.car-parts.com. It'll be about $160 shipped, but no guarantee DOA (they can usually tell u if you ask).

If you want to keep the factory radio, those $99 6cd in dash changer single din add-on on ebay will work, but I don't think they will work on maxima radios as there's no way to change source from am/fm/tape -> CD. Check your radio to see if there's a circle connector on the back and a button to change your source to CD (also make sure there's changer buttons on the changer or your radio).

My other options were a $120 blaupunkt "San Diego" head unit and a $109 blaupunkt 5cd in-dash changer...so just over $200, you'd have a kick arsh radio and changer...and since it looks crappy, nobody would try to steal it.

Another option is Eclipse...$150 head unit, $200 6cd changer...pricier, but the headunits aren't as clear as Blaupunkt. Or the eclipse 6cd radio/changer for $300.

Last option, and probably the best: Nakamichi...but the single din radio/6cd is $600....even the 6cd in dash add on is $400.

If you still want the Nissan 6cd dbl din, lemme know...I know someone who wants to sell for $200.

I dunno how that would work cuz the bose speakers have external amps...you'd hafta bypass the external amps (easy for the rear speakers, dunno about the fronts). Other than the amps, it should be a direct swap.
btw, I just found another place that sells used nissan 6cd changers for under $200. hit me up if you want the info.

Kevin, from what I've heard Bose and Non-Bose systems are not compatible. The connectors on the back of the radios don't match up, then there is the issue of the amps. Make sure to check that out before you purchase.

I just successfully installed a HU (non-bose) out of a 2000 GXE into my 96' GXE without any problems. It was a direct plug in, I also got the CD changer on order from EBay.

what? bose has diff harnesses? If that's true, why doesn't Schoch/metra make harnesses for Bose systems?
I took the bose outta my 93 Max..no problems installing an aftermarket radio using standard pre-1995 nissan harness.
