mid MEVI install - Lower intake plenum Q~!

Ok, oem manifold is off the car and i noticed the right most runner of the lower plenum has what appears to be gunk in it.. the others are fairly clean.

any ideas boys?

btw, anyone have evap on top of the manifold and not on the side... doesn't seem to be matching holes for relocation.. what have you guys been doing?

thanks!

The gunk in the lower plenum is normal (unfortunately). I had the same on mine. It's a combination of exhaust gas/carbon residue from the EGR and oil from the PCV system. Yuck. Normal, though. You could probably eliminate the worst of it by going with a breather filter instead of the PCV-to-intake manifold connection.

I think you're talking about the evap purge volume control valve on top of the driver's side rear of the plenum, correct? Has a hose going in from the bulkhead and a hose going out to the plenum? Has a big connector on it? I just have my assembly sitting on top of the manifold...doesn't seem to be a problem with it sitting freely on top. As far as the hose connection, I got a universal adaptor from Autozone and clipped it down to the proper lengths to adapt the larger control valve output tubing to the (had to buy separately - forget the exact size) new tubing connecting to the elbow on the MEVI plenum.

Yeah, mine was full of gunk as well. Glad to see it's normal. My evap valves just sitting on top as well. It's held in place pretty well by the hoses.

Kinda off the subject but I see in your sig that you don't have the RPM switch...Just wondering if you have gotten it yet and got the VI to be fully functional yet. Cause I'm interested to see the dyno difference with the before and after VI.

No, I'm still technically "un-MEVI'd". I have a permanently-on vacuum connection to the manifold now so I'm always set up for a high-rpm gain.

I sent my switch back to Harlan 3.5 weeks ago. He appeared to have spent the first week looking into the problems I had and was able to duplicate the issue. He also was looking into the reasons why (varied from possible bad EEPROM to an issue with the way it was programmed). Unfortunately, I have heard nothing from him for 2 weeks in spite of emailing him for updates. The last email I sent him was pretty blunt: I want my replacement switch by the end of next week. We'll see if he complies.

I am VERY frustrated at the customer service right now. I'm afraid he's viewing this as a neat engineering project now rather than him taking care of a customer's issue. He's definitely an engineer...no business/customer service skills. I won't be doing business with him again.

I too have been waiting on my window switch to show up at my doorstep. I have emailed him constantly over the past 3 weeks now and I have only gotten 1 response from him. I need it ASAP, and I am getting shot around here.

I used 1" flat steel(as in wide) and made a bracket. I used the mounting hole where the metal tube that connects to the PCV valve screws into and the mounting hole for the bracket that holds the throttle and cruise control cables. I positioned the evap in the middle of these two holes. The OEM bolts are long enough to hold the new evap bracket and the current ones. I put the OEM brackets down first than the new evap bracket on top of them.

You have to fasten the evap to the bracket before it goes onto the manifold. You also have to position the bolt heads used to fasten the evap on the underside of the bracket. It's a tight fit with all the hoses up top but it works. I rounded all the corners off with an angle grinder, cleaned, and painted the bracket. Looks almost OEM.

Edit: You may need a longer hose to connect the evap to the manifold.

I just used a long zip tie and wraped it around the valve and tied it to the spedo cable guide bracket so it dosent flop around.
