Faulty Diagnostic Link Connector?

Went to take my 97 GLE Max for its annual emissions test, but the tech said that the Diagnostic Link Connector was damaged or the computer was not responding.

Has anyone had this problem? If so, what can be done to fix this?

Nissans use a different protocol than what they normally use. For example the protocol from a ford won't work with a nissan.
