Smokers: How do you empty the ashtray???
Smokers: How do you empty the ashtray???
This seems like a very simple question, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get the ashtray out to empty it... is there some secret button I can't find or some magic words I need to say?
Please help... the butts are overflowing!

You should be dragged into the street and beaten with chains for smoking in your car.
The ashtray liner just pops straight up and out.

everyone: "You got a new car and you smoke in it??"
me: "I'm a smoker."
So just pull straight up? I'll give it a shot, although I swear I've tried everything. Maybe the last guy glued it in or something.

You have a nice car, I can't believe you smoke in it.
I boutgh the car used, and the previous owner was a smoker, the baster left a layer a nicottine over the whole car, I had to detail it like 3 times to get it 100% clean
now it's all good.
But, hey, if you like smoking in your car, I understand; No matter what people say, I won't stop having sex in my car

When I first got it I was overjoyed that it had plastic front pillars. The last Max was spotless, except for three burn marks on the damn velour(sp?) pillar.

Yeah I used to work for Enterprise for a while...Febreeze worked wonders.....but hey there was nothing we could do because of the people who took advantage of our non-smoking policy. We couldn't possibly afford to get the car detailed every single time someone smoked in our car. Someone smoked out a brand new burgandy 2002 Maxima SE we got this spring....I was so mad
when he brought it back with cigarette burns all over the place!!! Of all cars--why would you ruin a brand new Max! It should be a crime...oh well...the customer paid for it in the end! Lata

it should just lift out, try pulling it forward first. it is said you have a nice car, so dont think you should smoke in it. i refuse to let anyone smoke in my car. my dad tried to smoke in it and i told him no smoking or get out. lol... but like other said, i have sex in my car so i cant really talk

Others get the Avalon.
I am a serious smoker. But one thing im even more serious about is smoking in the maxima. I dont do it at all. Please be careful if you do, a Maxima is a very beautiful car and the effect of ashes and smoke and burning is like beating the motor with a sledgehammer.
Take it from a guy who smokes a pack a day almost anywhere, but his max. You cant trust people to be as careful as you are and unfortunately something will get burned sooner or later.

Well, I rent cars in Korea and Koreans are the worst smokers of all.
Probably 80% of the population smokes at least half a pack a day... no kidding.
In Korea, there is no such thing as a true non-smoking rental car.
A non-smoking car means that the previous renter claimed he didn't smoke in it.
Scented sprays won't do the trick... they might cover it for a few hours. The smell is all embedded in the plastics and carpet.
You gotta steam clean the carpets and take a nylon brush and scrub all the door panels and dash with interior cleaners. And probably scrub out the headliner as well with a carpet scrub brush... and then wash all the windows too, and then you have to scrub and clean the seats too...
Then drive the car with the windows down for a few days to let the moisture from the cleaning dry out... and then throw in some air fresheners. Yes, its a several day ordeal to un-smoke a car.
Enjoy the ash tray while you can. More and more cars are going to be ash-tray free in the future.

I always keep a half-filled bottle of water with a resealable top on it in the car, ash out the window, and put the butts in the bottle and close it.
This keeps the smell of stale butts out of the car and is cleaner.
I just change it out every few days.

I am going to try the bottle of water.
I've never had a problem with smokers, I fully support the rights of smokers (and am against the ridiculous taxes on them in the Northeast). But the place I draw the line is in my car. One day I was nice enough to give someone a ride home from work and the stupid girl whipped out a cigarette, I was like sorry but absolutely not in my car. Not even with the sunroof open, no way.
She was nasty anyway, I think she had more miles on the "odometer" than my Max.
