WARNING! Windshield trim piece breaks off at high speeds.

WARNING! Windshield trim piece breaks off at high speeds.
I was driving up the Interstate on Sunday and I noticed a little humming sound comming from my car. I was going around 100 mph with the windows down so I couldn't hear it that clearly. After I got around some traffic, I got up to about 125 mph and then, BANG! I thought I blew a tire or something, but I was still driving ok. When I stopped and got out to inspect the car, I saw half of the metal trim piece that goes across the top of the windshield sticking straight up in the air. When the driver's side half broke loose it smacked the roof and took some paint chips out. I couldn't drive it like that, so I pulled it the rest of the way off and kept driving. I went through some rain and didn't feel any moisture comming through the top. When I got home I looked at the little metal channel that the trim piece clips plug into and it was wider in some areas that others, probably why it came loose. I might be able too bend those spots closer together, but I know I'll have to get a new trim piece, because mine is bent to ****.
Anybody ever heard of this happening or know about how much a new trim piece is gonna cost?
P.S. Any posts lecturing me about how fast I was driving are unwelcome.

You need to replace your H rated windshield trim. It's only rated to 130mph. My V rated trim holds fine at those speeds and is rated to 149mph.

BTW http://www.oem-car-parts.com should be able to help. Check their prices before you go to the dealer.
http://www.car-part.com has junk yard parts list and they might have it cheap.

I just checked http://www.oem-car-parts.com and they have it for $24.88, I'm sure Nissan would charge an a$$ load for it. Thanks

Were your windows still down when the trim came off? If so, you may have pressurized the cabin enough to flex the windshield outward. For peace of mind, you may want to have a professional glass installer check the seal before you replace the trim.

I had a similar problem, though it was due to poor installation. I had my windshield replaced and that trim part was sticking up, not sitting flush. They tried to fix it but determined that the windshield was sitting to low in the frame. So the gap you spoke of could be if/when yours was replaced and also placed too low. They had to tape my molding to the glass and roof so it wouldn't fly off - but after about 30 minutes of driving at 80+, the tape started to come off and made a terrible noise flapping in the wind. I pulled over and just took it off and the molding ended up staying put. Looked like it'd fly off any second, thankfully it didn't.
In the end, they threw out that top molding and wrapped the whole windshield in black rubber molding, thereby eliminating the problem. It looks good, can't even notice much difference.
