What brake pad to get?
What brake pad to get?
I have a 1999 Nissan Maxima SE. My breaks squeak like crazy and I think I should change the pad. The brake pad on my car right now is some generic brake pad which sucks. I try everything to stop the squeak but it keeps coming back. My last option is to change it to either the original (dealer) or some brand that is good. What brand do you guys recommend? I do not need anything for high performance, just regular brakes that will not squeak and is at a fair price. IF you also have a link to the site it will be greatfull. Thanks

Brakes, no matter what pad you use shouldn't squeal. If there squealing it means the shims are not installed correctly or something is out of wack.
Make sure your shims are in good condition, if not get a new shim kit from Nissan. You can also use anti squeal compond between the shims and the pads. If the installation is correct, your brakes shouldn't squeal no matter which pad you use.

Cheapest deal on brembo front rotors (non slotted, non x-drilled) was from nopi at about $31 each.
As many have said, you don't need the small v-shaped wires that may be on the front of the pad. Their function seems to be to push the pads away from the rotor. New pads from Nissan don't even come with the holes for the wires any more.
No squeaks with mine yet either but I'm only on about mile 75 and still taking it easy on them. As others have said, I used anti squeal compound between the shims and the pads.
The only pads I've ever used that seemed to squeak no matter what I did were metal masters.
Good luck,
Jim
I and other members (Deezo) have had good experiences with Performance Friction Carbon Metallic front pads. I got them for $32 from Autozone. Unfortunately, they do not make a rear pad for us.
Moderate dusting, but they stop great...when they get warm...

Re: What brake pad to get?
That's funny I too have a 99 Maxima but GXE and my brakes squeak too and I only have like 22000 miles on it. But it doesn't squeak all the time, only when I start the car and puts it reverse it does it than it goes away. Is that normal?

i have a 99 SE-L and when i got it, it had the OEM nissan pads on it, which squealed like crazy. Then i put wagner ceramic brake pads on, and now they stop smooth and are quiet. Not too pricey, but more than your average pads.
