Puzzling engine problem update

OK people, you all were right. My CEL bulb was taken out to "fix" the problem. I love used car salesmen! Totally my fault though, should have done some research before buying. On to the diagnosis -

To answer an earlier question, the car turns over fine when hot, it just does not start. After dismantling the dash and robbing the OD Off bulb for the CEL, I got the following codes - 1005 and 0908. REsearch has revealed I have problems with my EGRC Solenoid Valve and my Coolant temperature sensor(as predicted by someone in my first post.) I intend to go get a repair manual and volt meter today to check the CTS. Is there a test for the EGRC solenoid or should I go ahead and replace it?

Thanks for the help, you guys are some pretty smart cookies.

I'd go ahead and replace the EGR Solenoid.

A quick note for you on the coolant temp sensor. Our cars have 2 sensors. There right next to each other by the thermostat housing near the upper radiator hose. The sensor that is closest to the engine block is the one for the ECU, thats the one gone bad on you. The other sensor is for the temp gauge inside the car.

Check the connection on the temps sensor. Sometimes just some corrosion on the end will cause incorrect readings which will throw the code and give you the hard starts your gettings. Make sure there nice and clean so you get a good electrical contact. That might cure the problem as well, saving you a few $$$.

Thanks for the update and Im glad your on your way to fixing the problem.

You have no idea how annoying it is when someone posts a problem and you give them advice (right or wrong) and you never hear from them again......

Sorry for the rant......Im done now
