What is the difference between the MEVI and the....

5th gens VI?

I know they are the same motor other then the VI. But couldn't you go to the junk yard and get a 5th gens VI instead of a MEVI?

I searched and read through quite a few threads and haven't seen anyone present this question.

Thanks.

The 5th generation runners dont fit up to the 4th engine..I think I remember reading that a little while back in a post...That isnt the only change from the 4th to the 5th, the 5th has different cams as the 4th gen...different part number

Pretty much. I knew there where minor differences (which were mentioned) and some other silly stuff. But it's the same block, mounts, pistons....etc. Same core more or less.

The ports are totally different as well, so they wouldn't match up.

I thought they were the same and the reason to use the MEVI is because it is vacuum controlled rather than computer controlled as it is on the 5th gen max... correct me if i am wrong..

No thats not entirely true, the 5th gen intake is a better design because it has true long and short runners that switch over, the MEVI for the 4th gen has no long and short runners, it is just resonance tuned for more power up top. when the MEVI opens, it opens to an area on top that is resonance tuned for more hp on top end.

the ports are the same...part numbers for lower intake manifold are exactly the same for 4th and 5th gens....reason why poeple don't use 5th gen manifolds is becuase:
1. you have to buy ALL the intake parts..including the TB and intake piping...
2. Idle air control is completly different rendering your current harness connections useless and triggering the CEL.
3. 5th gen VI is electronically controlled where 4th gen VI is mechanically controlled (vacuum)

4. MEVI is shinier no DPI setup for 5th gens stupid composite manifold instead of metal

I know the ports don't match because I know someone who had a 5th gen manifold to play with. He later sold the manifold to Mardigras who ended up getting a MEVI rather than going with the 5th gen manifold. If anyone could have made it work it would have been Matt.

On the 5th gen, vacuum is still used, so a Harlan with a MAP/Baro switch and a vacuum canister would do the trick. The manifold is a dual stage manifold, so the ECU shouldn't matter.

if the ports dont match, i guess theres more differences between the VQ30DE and VQ30DE-K than most have thought.
