I was looking at the same place to get mine for my GLE. I only need a few of he pieces and it looks like they are willing to sell smaller kits of the pieces that we would want.

Do you or anyone know what wood type comes with the GLE? I think that it is American Walnut, but I'm not 100% sure.

I just went through the same BS with my GLE.......NOTHING aftermarket (or even factory for that matter) matches the OEM pieces that the GLE has.
When I say factory I mean this........I purchased a Factory Nissan woograin kit for an SE model car that didnt come with the woodgrain at all from ebay for $75 shipped (list price was $360). This was an original 97 part that fit 95-97 (for whatever reason)
It included the piece under the inst cluster, the side vents, the center vent, clock assy, auto climate control, radio, shifter and ashtray. It didnt come with a piece for the coin tray for what ever reason. (it wasnt missing, just didnt include it in the kit and was not available, maybe because the SE just has a hole.....what ever.....)

Getting to my point. I bought this "factory" kit thinking that I was just going to "finish off" where the factory should have........NOT was 2 shades lighter than OEM!

Wound up covering the OEM pieces with the new stuff just to get it to match!
Overall not too bad an experiance though.

Will post some pics when I take some......

I bought my dash kit (Oxford Burlwood) off Ebay from Alkaplus, Inc. They ship fast!! I received it in 2 days. After I installed it, it really makes the interior stand out. I got the 30 piece, including the gauge bezel. With my gauge rings, it really looks sharp! With my beige interior, though, the kit came with extra pieces for the door like the trim around the door handle and the "pull" door handle. I thought it didn't look right with these trim "rings", so I just installed the pieces for the window switches. Looks just as good. But, overall, I believe it was well worth the $100.00 for all 30 pieces! More pieces than any other manufactuer I had seen for our Max's!

Did you have the wood trim B4? Cuase I'm still trying to fine out what kind of wood trim the 99 gle's had.

No , I didn't have any factory wood trim. I believe this is best because, if you have the factory wood trim, an aftermarket trim kit will show the existing factory trim along the edges making it look fugly. Most of the aftermarket dash kits are "flat" kits, meaning that they don't contour around the edges. They still expose the dash pieces underneath. This is why, IMHO, if you have the factory black dash pieces, it will only look better. As far as the GLE models, I believe they all have the regular, cherry look-a-like woodgrain. I'm not sure of the exact color scheme, though. I think the only way to match it, though, if you inquire sample pieces from whoever you want to buy the kit from. Most aftermarket dash trim kits sell OEM pieces to go along with their existing dash trim, but then again, it's the "matching" issue. I hope this helped any.

check with I30 owners

I think I30 comes with more wood trim than a GLE with wood trim.
Including A/C control bezel and around the clock.

i30

i looked at a 95 I-30 and it had the same amount of wood as the 95 gle. I dont know why they didnt put the woodtrim all the way to the a/c vents. it looks tacky having some wood and some black.

I remember seeing korean maxima (sm5) pics w/wood trim, it had wood everywhere including door handle cups, all a/c vents. looked good,
It still may not match stock gle trim since it's made in korea.

when i got my car it had that DEALER INSTALLED factory woodgrain kit. Those things are UGLY! If you want to get a real touch of luxury, do what i did and get the OEM wood pieces from i30/gle. GLEs dont have wood around the AC CONTROLS but I30s have so i pulled that out of an i30.

The clock and AC vents in i30 are same color as the dash and thats why they dont need a woodpiece on it. In a max the vents are same color but the clock is black. Oh well its all good.

IMO if you have a SE then you should have black leather steering wheel. In that case the black pieces on the cluster and clock will match with steering wheel and everything will look just fine. Check out my webpage for more pics.

Like MIXXMAX, I also have the 30-piece Oxford Burlwood from Alkaplus, Inc. Considering that these are aftermarket, I am very happy with the fit and finish. When you look closely, you can tell that these are not OEM. The 3M adhesive backing really sticks! I also choose not to install all the pieces. In my case, I omitted the trims for the door handles and the "pull" handles. A big plus of this kit is the trim for the speedometer bezel. Just be patient and be prepared to spend a good hour to install it. This particular piece makes you sometimes forget that this kit is aftermarket.

I have gone through 2...the second being of much better quality....but they never fit perfect. I wanted the kit to look seemless....(you would think these companies would get the measurements right). In the process of me trying to manipulate, I ripped/tore the pieces in a couple of spots. This would be the differnce that I would look into those I30 pieces or the oem max pieces for dash..cause the aftermarkets fit good...not perfect.

Related question - replacing wood kit?

My '95 wood trim kit (don't know what kind, it had it when I bought the car) has cracked in a couple of places, and is peeling up in others. Is it possible to pull the damaged pieces off and replace them? And...is it worth it (i.e. do you get a good end result)?

Thanks!

yes you can replace that piece...the fun part for you is going to be to try and figure out what type of wood it is, ex. burlwood. I would go to different webpages that sell the kits, and try to find one that looks like it. There are a lot of different types of wood, and there are a lot of companies, and the color and shades may very between companies. Try ebay..I picked up a cheap set to fix pieces for $25 bucks (was from the same company that I already bought from)
