Figured out WHY our autos don't go past 4rpm at tracks
Sexima, I think you were racing doing above 110 or so because going that fast it will help to turn the OD on so that it will jump a few rpms to engage 4th gear if your are flooring it. I tend to see lots of people on this thread saying that their Max shifts at redline which is 6000 rpms? I thought redline is 6600? At least mine is. And for times at the track, me and DCmax are going to be the first to run 14's auto n/a 4th gen here in MD this October. Has anyone on the whole board done 14.9 or better n/a yet? I've been to the track lots of times and have been getting great times though this past everyone at the track happend to be running a .5 seconds slower due to the humidity and I ran a best of 15.3 which I think could've been my high 14 if it was as cold as my 15.09 run back in June. Some people say manually shifting does nothing, though it'll truly work if you know what your doing, like the right time when to move the shifter up. Now if I was running high 15's would you guys believe me? I've learned lots of things about running at the track especially about the engine heat, of course if you run back to back runs your Max will get worse times each time. Let your engine cool at least 30-45 minutes before each run.
You are right.
also about the redline being at 6600
I redline like it there. You have tried this method before right?
Was it better than just leaving it to D?

no it wont. OD off at any decent speed will put it in 3rd from 4th. i have 172,000 miles, i use OD off to occasionally slow down by coasting, or if a cop pulls behind me or any other jack@ss. its the same as manually shifting from 1st to 2nd, which i DONT do. i left it in 2nd autocrossing however, since the tranny never sees 3rd.

I do that in traffic sometimes, kick it into second so the things not shifting constantly. Seems like a trans that shifts less should last longer, correct? That's why I use the O/D kill switch too. If it's *******, I'll hit the switch. I don't see it as any different than shifting a manual from 5th to 4th because you're going to slow. I'm kind of hoping a few other will chime in on this, as there have only been 2 or 3 of us that do his with no problems.

I would like to know for sure that it is not causing damage to the car.
I think it depends on conditions. Sometimes mine will shift at 6K, other times, I'm in the red. Recently, we got some cooler weather here, lower humidity, and the max is running awesome! I can push it right up there to red before it'll shift. It does seem to shift at a lower rpm after it's really warmed up though.

Nope... I got a 98, and I can push red almost any time I want. Like I said, just not when it's hot and humid out. Humidity seems to affect it more than heat.
