Sleeper Exhaust

I have a 98 SE with a CAI, Im now pricing out exhausts. Im looking for my car to be more of a sleeper. Any suggestions on an exhaust thats quiet but brings a lot to the plate?

Yah! I've got the perfect one. The one that's on the car right now.

Get a y-pipe, a cat, but as for the cat-back, jsut leave it alone. It's "quiet but brings a lot to the plate."

Welcome to the .org

Before someone tells you to SEARCH,

I'll save you some energy (because someone helped me when i was a n00b so i am now helping you).

Budget or Warpspeed Y-pipe, Random Technology Hi-flow Cat, Custom B-pipe, Stock muffler rear section off of a 5th gen.

You can buy the first 2 items and the rear section and then get a muffler shop to do a b-pipe and installation. maybe a few resonators in there also.

Oh, and you might want to delete this thread before the moderators or some wise guys start flaming. (click "edit/delete" towards the bottom of your first post).

Take care.

I want the same set up and this is what I am about to do. WSP y-pipe, highflow cat, WSP b-pipe connected so stock muffler.
I almost purchased a apex-i catback(and still might later on) but I really want a sleeper look for now.

it's really queit? I thought the y-pipe kills the quietness... especially inside the car.

That's true, inside the car you'll get noise. It really depends on the cat-back whether it's followed by a quiet new stock muffler. You won't be as quiet as completely stock, but you won't be even close to ricey loudness. The thing to go for is to have some kind of intake to get more engine sound than exhaust sound. At least that's what I would do for a sleeper car.

It really is quiet. Inside the car you will hear it. But I can only hear it when I get on it,and all I hear then is intake. But it's a very nice sound.

Hmm.. My PRCAI makes 1000x more noise than my Y. It seemed like the Y just added a grumble to the exhaust. No real noticeable increase in volume.

I have a Pop intake and WSP Y-pipe, and I agree 100%. Just a little grumble (I really only hear it when I start it up and at idle).

And Illmaxima, don't worry about the exhaust until you get a turbo. It's unfortunate, but a catback won't add 50+ HP on a NA Maxima like it does on a Civic (esp. if the Civic has chrome altezza taillights and blue LED washer nozzles).

You wil NEVER regret your Ypipe

but the muffler can kill ya. and going without a resonator is harsh. The cabin gets annoyingly loud at certain rpms.

Question: to those with 5th Gen cans on 4th Gen cars

Does the 5th Gen muffler bolt right up to the B-pipe no problem? -or do you have to have a muffler shop weld/bend it?

Also, do the stock hangers line up (4th Gen-to-5th Gen), or do those have to be welded on the can in different locations?

TIA.

I have a cattman y with a random tech cat, a stillen b pipe and the factory 4th gen muffler. its pretty quiet at idle when the ac is off..just a little drone but you can't hear it unless your right next to the exhaust. i def. recomend keeping the resonator though the inside noise is much greater after i put the stillen pipe on. also with the factory muffler i get kind of a back fire from the open exhaust when i come off the pedal at high speeds, like shifting at the top of first. don't know really what its doing, but its annoying.
hope this helps.
