Clutch is making noise.. help...

First of all..
it feels weird.. When you depress it, about 1/2 way through it starts to feel like it isn't going in smooth, but there is something in the way, so it feels like you're forcing it.. it's hard to describe.

But when i do this, it makes a weird noise, sort of a squeak and a screetch at the same time.
If I turn off the engine and pop the hood and listen, while someone is pressing the clutch, the noise is heard clearly and it's a lot louder..

Some was telling me of some bearing or something, a small item that is kind of like a maintenance item relating to the clutch that can be the cause.. anyone know what this can be?

any suggestions on where to look?

The clutch grabs well, but wtf is that noise and why doesn't it go in smooth.. ?

thanks

Hmm. Could be related to a binding slave cylinder. It could also be the fork that the slave cylinder pushes on to move the throwout bearing. It could be the throw out bearing itself, but the symptoms you describe aren't typical of that, unless I misunderstand. If it's the slave cylinder, it's a relatively easy fix. The other components are inside the transmission housing and would be a b1tch.

any idea on what i can do to diagnose or isolate the problem?

i have 118k miles on the car. I am pretty sure the clutch is stock.. it grabs well though. I figure if it was slipping it would mean it's on it's last legs, but other than this weird feel when you depress it and the noise it makes, it's fine.

I would guess throw out bearing, I had very similar symptons and it was the T/O bearing.

It's not an expensive part, but it's labor intensive to get to (you have to pull the tranny! ). I doubt it's the throw-out bearing, as I have been experiencing the same problem for a while now (I just got a brand new ACT ).

It's most likely the return spring for the clutch pedal. It needs to be lubed. Try it, and see if it helps.

If it is the throwout bearing, you might as well replace the entire clutch at this point, even if it still grabs okay. The labor is mostly done at that point. I don't think it is the bearing though, mostly because of the binding feeling you described. Sorry I can't help anymore than that on diagnosis.

Searching is good

BTW - You could've found your answer using search.

Not that I'm the search police, or anything.

I have the same problem, it sounds like my Eibach springs! But I was parked and upon releasing the clutch , I notice the noise, sounds more like rats , got trapped under my hood!

Same problem here. Previous owner placed the Slave cyl but still makes the noise. In addition, I noticed the clutch fluid's always dirty, even after I sucked all the old stuff out and put fresh fluid in. The pedal's heavy as heck!

I've been just living with my squeakage since it started. Before winter I'd like to see if lubing the area described by DBM in that search above (first thread) would take care of it. Otherwise, it's wait-til-new-clutch time...with this squeak and my throwout bearing gone, I think that might have to be escalated to spring
