New I30t/not new to nissan and infiniti
Hola maxima junkies! I've been hanging out on the org for a while now, but this is my first post.
Picked up a 96 I30t this weekend. First day I got a CEL. Code 41. Easy enough, found that the IATS wasn't connected properly. I connected the sensor back together, pulled off the battery negative for a minute then restarted car and still got the same code. I followed the sensor cables and all of those seem to be in working condition. What else could be the problem?
I have a good voltmeter, should I check the sensor with this when the vehicle is running or when off and which side of the sensor should I check, the side mounted to the metal bracked or the opposite?
The I30 is for my GF...talked her into it. I've been a very active member over at NICO for sometime now. Since this is my GF's car I most likely wont be doing any engine performance mods, but only suspension, brakes, looks and normal maintenance. Gotta keep her safe! Already ordered eibachs and kyb agx's and have only had the car for 48 hours. I can't wait to get the car up in my garage and put em on. I'm also going to do a full fluid flush. brakes, engine, PS, tranny. I haven't looked under it yet, but I'm guessing you can change the VLSD gear oil too, right? I also got that foggy head light syndrome that seems to be frequently talked about here. I did a search for it and about 7 pages pulled up.

There is not a whole lot you can do about the foggy headlights except getting the 99 jewel type. I did use a polish which cleaned and shinned them a little but there are always going to be pretty foggy.
It's good to have another I30 here. Any chance it's a stick?

DTC 0401
Diagnostic Trouble Code 0401 points to a problem with the Intake Air Temperature Sensor.
The IATS is mounted in the engine air intake duct, downstream of the air cleaner filter. It detects intake air temperature and transmits a signal to the Engine Control Module. The sensor uses a thermistor, a resistor with a value which is inversely proportional to temperature. The IATS is not directly used to control the engine. It is used only for
diagnostic purposes. Therefore the engine should start and run normally, even with the Malfunction Indicator
Light on and DTC 0401 stored.
This malfunction is detected when ...
a) An excessively low or high voltage from the sensor is detected by the ECM.
b) The signal from the IATS is inconsistent with the signal received from the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.
Possible causes include ...
- Harness or connectors (The sensor circuit is open or shorted.)
- a faulty Intake Air Temperature Sensor
The IATS resistance values should be ...
- at 14 degrees F, 7.0-11.4 Kohms
- at 68 degrees F, 2.1-2.9 Kohms
- at 176 degrees F, 0.27-0.38 Kohms
For further information about the Intake Air Temperature Sensor please refer to the Chilton repair manual (page
4-16) or the Haynes repair manual (page 6-11).
Did you reset the ECU after you did the fix-a-roo? taking the terminal off for a few minutes wont reset it... over night 24hrs might.

i laughed when you asked that because the 5 speeds are so rare, and i would love to have one.

Another i30! I too have a 5spd...and if you need one, well I could help ya! I bought 99 headlights on ebay for about $60...I got a really good deal, I have seen them on there every so often for ~$150...

"That is a good question and I have explained it before. There are a couple of reasons, not the least of which is that I am no longer a FULL time police Officer. I used to be, but now I am a Reserve officer. I am still a certified Police Officer employed as such, but I am only required to put in about 20 hrs per month, or two shifts. I went to school and got a Bachelors in Political Science and a Masters in Accounting because I thought someday I might go to work for the FBI....now I am making more money than I could with the FBI as a CPA and dig the job...and I can still patrol as an officer when I want to, which has always been my first love.
Second, the state police here is VERY militaristic, and will cut no breaks to anyone. They do NOT extend professional courtesy and if I got pulled over by them I could expect to get a ticket.
Third, I live near the UTAH border and travel into Utah very often....UHP doesn't like Idaho cops, I think because of the Idaho State Police, so I could expect to get a ticket there too. Point is, I can't speed and get away with it, and I would rather not be stopped....sound okay?"
