STILL having crankshaft position sensor prob but worse

Okay I swapped out my crankshaft position sensor and I still keep getting the code for it. The code I got was for the reference one and thats the one I changed. I also changed my sparkplugs to NGK oem's. Yesterday I went to the mechanic to change out my burnout starter thanks to the car not being able to start. Funny thing it started when I popped the clutch. They removed the plugs and tested everything to see why the car was shaking and why it had such a hard start. As they were taking out the plugs I noticed that some were black and some where white and I only put about 100 miles on the car maybe less. What could possibly be the problem. The compression is fine, they checked that. I dont know what the problem could be. Why am I still getting the same code. Yesterday I even got a camshaft sensor and we changed that too. The car has a really hard start as if the internals of it are all crashing into each other. My mechanic thought that maybe the timing chain had skipped a gear but I highly doubt it because this problem is recent. I got my timing chain redid in february I would have noticed then. Please help me out guys. I am desperate.

I've done a lot of searching and i'm not coming up with much either. My problem is similar...

I, like many have, am getting a 0407 code from my check engine light which is none other than "Crankshaft Position Sensor (Reference)." Like SOME of the others I spent the five minutes and replaced the sensor which is mounted in the timing cover (per Haynes). After changing the unit, my starts became better, yet still made a nasty noise. For a day or two the check engine light would blink code 0505 which basically means there is no problem and as such went away shortly. A couple days went by and yet again the light comes on. I temporarily blow off the light assuming that it is merely the 0505 code again. As i'm sure you've already guessed, my starts started to sound nasty again and when I checked the light it read 0407 again. I have been to motorvate.ca and read on how to try to fix the starter and will be doing this this Friday. And if that doesn't work I'll just buy a new starter.

My question here is do you guys think I've got the right idea, or do you think there are other things I should be taking care of first? I have read that the Bosch Platinum +4 have had problems with the VQ engine and so I plan to take those out as well. I would greatly appreciate any advice any one may have for me and this should help out Ramses718 as well.

Thanks,
BlueBOB

Well man to my surprise my mechanic was right. I went out to long island to because I didnt believe him. My mechanic told me that i should change the crankshaft position sensor positional but I didnt believe him. Jeff out on long island checked the sensor for me and to my surprise the sensor was broken. Check the other sensor and make sure it isnt broken and if it is go buy a new one. The sensor is cheaper then a new starter. Do that first and if it doesnt work post up again. I got a few other things for you to check lolol. Hope this helps.

From reading your other post I figured that your mechanic might have been right. When I got the 0407 code I found out that THAT sensor was the sensor that is mounted in the timing chain cover. From what I found out, that was the reference sensor and from your description, I believe you might have just had the two mixed up.

My problem went crazy this week anyway. Two nights ago I was stuck in the driveway of this girl I was dating. When I turned the key all I heard was one click. I thought battery so I called a friend to come gimme a jump. We then realized that it wasn't the battery because all my accessories worked fine. Needless to say it was the starter, so I got it towed to my buddy's house and I replaced the starter in front of his house at like 9:00 that night. It was crazy, but all my codes are gone and my startup is beautiful .

No more prob for the BlueBOB

Actually I didnt have the 2 sensors mixed up. The sensor on the oil pan is the reference and the sensor on the tranny is the positional.
