Engine light on; please help

I got my 30000 mile service done on my 99 maxima 2 weeks back; About 5 days back, my "check engine" light turned on.

Took it to the dealer, he ran diagnostics and the report says
"Found codes for IGN Signal primary (P1320) stored in the ECM performed power balance test and all cylinders tested no good. checked in asist and found a service bulletin ref#NTB01-060 regarding DTC P1320. As per bulletin recommend replace all the ignition coils and recheck system"

I have 33900 miles on this car. The dealer says the warranty has expired and this problem has nothing to do with the 30000 mile service he did.

The estimate is 900$. What do I do?

Thanks

Nick

Call up Nissan. Beg, yell, *****, whatever it takes for them to honor their own error. If there is a TSB, chances are they will fix it rather than risking a lawsuit.

Alternatively, you can buy ignition coils on your own & install them. If you know how to change your spark plugs, you can replace your coils.

Good Luck

re:engine light on

Thanks for your help. I already spoke to the dealer; he said since my warranty's over, he can do nothing, except give me a good deal (with a wink). Sometimes I wonder if this whole thing is a huge scam.

Anyway, I dont know much about cars; so I cannot install the coils.

But it just sounds so strange that all 6 ignition coils would fail on a car with just 30K miles on it.

Go to Autozone/Pepboys and get either the Haynes or Chilton's manual.
Get the coils from any dealer for approx: 70-80 a piece.
Install in less than an hour.
Save your $600 for modifications
Good Luck.

Dealer rips

Oh don't tell me you went to dealer and almost got ripped off.

You can check the engine light yourself using a simple screwdriver.

And I doubt your coils are dead only after 3K. And all 6 of them????

The dealer is trying to rip you off major time. $900! I did my whole mods, including frankencar, under $900.

Go get Haynes manual, $15, and do the ECU engine light check yourself, find the real problem, and fix it yourself.

It's not that hard.
