Transmission delay????
Transmission delay????
I have a 95 maxima SE and it seems a lot of times that when I slow down just before stopping and then go again the transmission delays to kick in and go.By the way it is an auto. For example when I am coming up to the stop signs that you slow down for and make a quick look and then go it seems like my car goes into second but not first and when I want to go it delays to go and then kicks into first and gains speed. When I say kicks though it isn't every time but sometimes it will jerk a little into gear? But not all the time. Is there something I need to check or is this just another problem with the crappy transmission in the maxima? Please help?

There's nothing wrong with your transmission. They all do the same thing. A rolling stop will leave the tranny in 3rd as well sometimes. You can thank Nissan for that! Just learn how to deal with it and expect it to be in the upper gears UNLESS you come to a complete stop.
A 2 MPH stop will usually leave you in 2nd.
Anything higher will leave you in 3rd, such as a toll.

my dad's
my dad's 91 towncar will do that sometimes but only on a right turn when the car is stopped. when shifting from 1st to 2nd the engine will rev and then the gear will pop in real hard. on my 95 maxima it will only do rough gear changes when the engine is cold.
That what I hate most about the darn Nissan automatic!
What I do when coming to a stop is to make sure I'm stop for a good second or two, then go. No problem when I do that. However, if I stop but not completely, the transmission will lag. Sucks for sure.

The delay syndrome
What your experiencing is normal for our auto tanny's. It's aggravating but all I do when I'm coming up to a stop or turn on red is downshift the tranny to 2nd and power into the turn or rolling stop....I got tired of being surprised by the dump into 2nd and sometimes 1st and nailing the rev limiter so I anticipate when this is going to happen.
