Spark Plugs?????

Where the hell are they I just brought some from the dealer and when I got home I popped the Hood and I was like W/T????

If you don't know where the spark plugs are, that means you don't have a manual. You will benefit from having a Chilton or Haynes manual. In my opinion, Haynes is the better of the two.

Do you have an Owner's Manual? You will find instructions and line drawings for replacing spark plugs in Chapter 8, "Do It Yourself".

Owner's Manual.....

Yes I have an Owner's Manual, but I want one of those Mechanics Books like they use at the dealer. I asked them and I think they said it was $90 for it I think I'll go check if they have it in stock yet.

I recommend the Haynes manual for most home mechanics. The factory service manual contains much more detail but it costs a fortune. The factory book is what you need if you are getting into some heavy-duty "wrenching" such as a complete engine or transaxle rebuild.

You can buy Haynes for less than $20. You may find it on the shelf at your local public library. That gives an opportunity to "try before you buy".

I called the dealer to find out where they were and they told me it was real hard to do and I better bring it down to them. What a bunch of sh*t! It's super easy. Get the Haynes and you'll be on your way. Good luck.

Absolutely right!

If you like using tools, you will like working on your car. Start with the easier jobs and work your way up. Before long you will be thinking "They charge $xxx for THAT?!?".

Most owners can handle their own 30K and 60K service. Dealers charge a lot for the same work.

The owner who does his own routine maintenance
- saves money
- learns more about how his car works
- takes pride in his skill and self-reliance

If you have any mechanical aptitude and plan on keeping the car till it dies, buy the dealer,s factory service manual. Between that book and people like DBM, you could fix anything.

Hot engine...

Interesting that the web page doesn't say anything about waiting for the engine to cool before you yank the plugs. For years a lot of cars (GM mostly) have had a sticker under the hood that states this. The reason being that the aluminum head is soft when hot and you can very easily pull the threads out with the plugs. Actually, I can personally attest to this - not one of my shining moments as a mechanic.

Hmmm...perhaps Nissan uses a different alloy so this isn't necessary.

Actually I have both the Chiltons and Haynes and they are both good in their own way. The Haynes has excellent interior disassembly instructions, such as accessing the evaporator or heater fan. The Haynes manual also has instructions for pulling codes from the TCM for tranny trouble codes. The Chiltons has excellent engine disassembly diagrams that shows each component of the engine in line drawings. Also, Haynes has NO exhaust pictures, whereas Chiltons at least has a couple line drawings.

I plan on getting the factory manual soon, since neither the Haynes nor Chiltons have detailed instructions on the transmission assembly.

The factory service manual has 291 pages in the Automatic Transmission chapter. If you are getting inside the tranny, the FSM is the right book to have.

I feel for you man. Those plugs were the biggest Pain in the A**. Especially the the 3 to the back of the engine.
