V2 Bearing Noise?

Yesterday I've started to hear a different noise coming from the V2 instead of the usual "angry crickets". Its more of a knocking sound. This noise only shows up when I'm at idle. If I revv the engine or have the car in motion the noise isnt' there. Is this the first signs of worn bearings or is my sc belt too tight??? I just swapped out the original Stillen idler pulley recently with DanNY's idler pulley. Its been 2 years now that I've had the SC. Check the oil level and its fine.

Re: V2 Bearing Noise?

the angry cricket should NOT be there at ALL for V2s.

i noticed a more of a metallic-y sounds when the blower was pre-rebuilt. but knocking is NOT good.

check to see if the ring for the filter is hitting the turbines. i.e. take off your pancake filter and check to see if its ok.

i highly recommend a rebuild if you've been boosting alot..

when vortech replaces the seals, they rebalance and check to see if all the gears are ok.

$400 after everything is done. but my car is freakin quiet now.

Thanks for the reply, Cheston!

The "angry crickets" noise has been there since day 1. It was a very subtle noise.
As for overboosting I haven't done it alot since the first few weeks I've had it installed so I can rule that out.
I've found a much closer local Vortech distributor to see if they are able to help me out.

I found out from Jeff Dann at Bishop Sales Ltd. (bishopsales.com) that I'm still covered under the standard 3 year Vortech warranty.
Although he deals with Saleen Mustangs he was quite enthusiatic when I told him I have a V2 in my Maxima. He even said that there should be more SC'ed Maximas! Really nice guy and very helpful!
Anyhow he's suggested that I give Stillen a call first and then Vortech. Turn around time estimate is 1- 2 weeks.

Is this to be expected for everyone who owns the Vortech V2?
