Okay, so I found a 99 SE in a junk yard, and I have two questions about it.

1) Do SE ECUs have a speed limiter?

2) Will a 99 SE ECU work in a 98 GLE if they are both autos? I don't want to switch out wiring harnesses or anything, I just wanna unplug and plug.

Can I do that stuff?

No, it wont have a speed limiter.

No, it wont work in your car. Well, it will work, but you may get a constant Check Engine light.

 

SE's have no speed limiter eh? My 99 SE-L can only hit 115

::All the way down..once it reaches 115 @ 6500rpm it jumps to 5k rpm as i slow back down..

 

are you working that OD button? maybe something is wrong with your tranny that its not shifting to 4th... because on a limiter.. the gas cuts till it reaches back to 100 mph.. you can press the gas all you want to and move the rpm's up.. but the car gets no power

 

my 4th gear works like a charm..70 mph @ 2400 rpm sounds about normal right? I know it works cuz when i push the OD button the rpm's jump (3rd gear)

 

So what if I found another 98 SE ECU, would that still give me check engine lights?

about your 99 SE-L with limiter....i originally thought i had a limiter on my 97 se.....and i would be approaching 115ish, and the tranny would shift, down to about 4.5k rpm, and it wouldnt go any higher...i thought that was the limiter kicking in, but it was the tranny shifting....so a few thinigs i did was TB cleaning, changed the fuel filter...a.fter that i could hit ~135ish, but it would take a while to get up there....after having my Y installed last week, 130 comes like nothing

 

Won't removing the speed limiter make the check engine light come on? I am just paranoid about making the light come on - what if something goes wrong and I don't catch it until it is mad expensive to fix because my light is always on? Am I just a panzy?

...seriously, look for ben's ecu mod, yes it will make a CEL trip, but what you can do is, if your savy enuff, wire a switch to it, so that you flip it when you wanna go 130, and then unflip it when you want the CEL off...youll have to reset the ECU after you flip the switch off, but it will go off....does that make sense?

 

I like that idea. It gives me something to think about. That was damn igenuitive!
