Tune Up tools

I recently bought a Maxima and it had close to 90k miles on it. My dad would like me to perform the tune up myself so....

What tools do I need to perform a tune up at 90k miles? I have the Nissan maintenance manual but there is no tool list in the MA section. Also, how do I flush fluids? Is there anything else I should know for a beginner?

-Gambit

PS: What's the most gas efficient RPM?

Basic wrech and ratchet sets. Maybe a scredriver or so.

Gambit - welcome to the Maxima community. You'll need a spark plug
socket for the plugs and other than that just basic socket set,
pliers and a screwdriver. The latter two items will help out when
you change the fuel filter. For good info and details on how and
what to do go here: MaximaDriver.com
Just click on HOW2 in the left pane and select your activity from
the links on the right. Probably worthwhile to start with the 60K
tuneup section.

Cheers,

JK

Don't forget to buy a Panel-Popping tool.

It's a godsend to get fuel lines/vacuum hoses/any other small hose off.

It looks like a small crowbar with a screwdriver type handle. You can walk into any Auto parts store and say "I need a panel-popper", and they'll know what to give you.

You simply wedge the crowbar end between the hose and the piping it's attached to, and pry the hose off. it works perfectly, and also keeps you from accidentally ripping a hose from pulling on it.

Other tools you may need:

A 10" extension for the rachet set:
Helps out in lots of hard to reach places. Including replacing spark plugs.

A Torque wrench: For tightening all those bolts to Spec

A Breaker bar: For loosening all those old rusted stock bolts that won't move with the normal rachet. (ie. Struts, Starter..)

Have fun.

If I may add my suggestions (from experience):

ViseGrips - gets off what won't come off otherwise. Often, you'll have to replace the bolt, but if somethin is broken, you need it fixed.
A lot of common sense - taking stuff apart/putting it back together is not too tough, as long as you think it through.
The search function - if you haven't discovered it already, its at the top right and will SAVE you so many times.

If all else fails:

http://forums.maxima.org ... but you already found that!

I've been looking everywhere and I can't find a panel popper. I've checked Sears, Kragen, Autozone, and Pep Boys. I live in Orange County, CA. If anyone knows a place where I can purchase a panel popper, it'd be greatly appreciated.

did you actually "ask" for the panel popper? Or did you just look for it? They may have it behind the counter.

Go to a car stereo shop and ask them where they get theirs. They can likely order one for you, or tell you where to go.
