The moment of truth...(suspension)

Ok. I am ready to do some damage to my bank account. I need better shocks, my Toks really don't do squat anymore.

So my two options/interests are:

1.) KYB AGX
2.) Motivational Engineering shortened struts

My main concern is bottoming out. I know the Motivationals most likely won't. What about the AGXs?

I need some feedback from anybody who has had experience with one and/or both since the price differential is significant. And yes, I've searched, and nobody really discusses how well AGX handles bigger bumps.

Thanks,
RL

Not enough people have the Motivational Engineering struts so this thread will be very bias. PM Chunger, I believe he has had both (I THINK).

never had Motivational Engineering, but the AGX are very performance oriented, with adjustable settings. I know next to nothing about ME, can someone post a link?

Hey, the link is http://www.motivational.net

They apparently did the suspension for SCC Project 200SX.

Bottoming out really has more to do with the springs, not the struts. If you go too low on the springs, the struts will bottom out. Don't get me wrong, higher quality struts like AGXs will save you from bottoming sometimes, but not all the time. If you go any lower than a 1.7" drop, you will bottom out the struts often. Believe me I know this, I've had numerous suspension setups.

That's because with the current strut options (AGX,GR2,Tok) the stock strut length is maintained. So when the ride height is lowered, more of the shock is compressed, and the top of the shock body is closer to the bump stop. The Motivationals are apparently SHORTENED struts, using stock body and shortened Koni inserts. Therefore, they will have more travel (space between the top of the body and the bump stop). Therefore bottoming out has more to do with suspension travel.
