Auto Tranny and boost

Hey anyone out there with and auto tranny pushin 240-250 hps, what do you do to protect you stuff? Seems like it would shorten the hell out of your transmission life. And how does shifting feel with that much HP - is it really worth it?

Sorry to be Unclear

My question isn't about hp as much as it is preserving transmission life. I guess I should have been more precise with my question: how do you keep from killing your auto tranny when pushing high HP?

Hmm. I might be stupid

I bet you meant check the Dyno forum and email people, not move my thread. Sorry, it's late. I have been pulling all kinds of dumb posts tonight - I guess I'll quit it.

Re: Auto Tranny and boost

I think I'm pretty close to that power. Basically like Kevin said. VB mod, tranny cooler, synthetic ATF. I use Mobil 1, not Redline, but close enough. This is about all you can do unless you want to get into the high dollar tranny rebuilds, eg. Level10 or custom work.

Trust me when I tell you from experience....the weak link in auto's is the small weak parts that noone is manufacturing beyond oem specs. I have spoken to a company in NJ (do a search for "bulletproof trans." and you will find their recent post) and they are going a step further than Level 10. The company is hardening, manufacturing, and welding some of the notoriously weak links inside the tranny. This goes a considerable amount further than does even the Level 10 tranny, which basically rebuilds with heavier clutches, bands, and converter BUT that's it. All the internal miniature parts that tend to shred themselves up easier are left alone.

The suggestions offered DO go a long way in prolonging the inevitable, until someone really goes in and does something meaningful to the internals. It is a very good starting point, but like everything else the tranny (left internally stock) does have it's limits. Believe me I've rebuilt two in less than a year.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking

I figured they would get eaten alive - just a vb mod didn't seem like enough to me. I guess it is just a matter of time.

It all depends on how many power adders you put in. With all the bolt ons and no boost/N2O, you should be just fine. When you start adding boost, sensible amount should be ok if you add the preventatives mentioned before. If you go nuts with the boost, the only way to keep it together (so far) is non-existent. If the guys from up in NJ can do what they say, it may be possible then.
