Where I can buy a RED/ClearTail light .....buy or DIY

This is my first post in here.......Anyway, where I can buy the clear/red tail light for my Maxima 98 with a good price. At custommaxima sell it for $195, but I really think it is really expensive. I would spend my money on something else. I would pay to someone who know how to replace the ugly orange tail light to a clear one. Because I am scared to do this mod, because I think I 'll break it. Please let me know...........
PS:I live in Glendale, CA.............

hmmm. I really think you should try doing yours. Is really not hard I made mine and they came out clean. The hard part is cutting the flourecent light covers. That was really hard.

It is not worth $195!!!

Get a heat gun, $10. Get a cheap "dremel" with metal cutting blade $40 and your flouresent sheet, $5. And trust me, you'll be using the dremel and the heat gun a lot later on!!! I cut mine with the dremel, and sand it down with a drum sander.... it's easy! I did only 2 and they both came out perfect the first time. I spent more time heating up the assembly so I don't crack the lense.

DON'T use the oven method...i did that, and well they warped
i'd reccommend a heatgun, or if you want to be SUPER DUPER safe, use a blow dryer, but you'll be there hours

If you see it that way, and if my car never came with any tail lights then heck Yeah it's worth the money. But how many of us here on the board will actually go pay $180 for a brand new OEM set from the dealership when we busted ours or wanting to make red/clear. Plus, your old extra red/amber set will either be sitting around collecting dust or you will be selling it for cheap.

It's worth it when compare to OEM price, but it's not worth it if you already got your own set to DIY with.

you have a spare set..

so he makes you a brand new set for $195

you have yoru OEM tails.. i just saw someone sellign them for $100

so you only pay what? $95

thats cheaper than a set of altezza's..

www.fastfours.com under 1996 Nissan Maxima - Taillamp Assembly they have red/clear or just clear tails for $156.90 off the top of my head. Are they real red/clears for 95-96? I obviously have a 96 and have been looking for red/clears forever. Has anybody bought them from there?

if you want red/clears make them yourself if you are going to spend money buy Altezzas because you cannot make Altezzas yourself...

There have never, ever been any mass-produced 95-96 red/clears from anywhere. EVER! EVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!

And I doubt they are selling all clears because those are illegal.

I got pulled over for having the all clear.

A buddy that i work with said he got the red/clear for his car from some place here where I live. I gotta check them out and then go to the place and then maybe we'll have a little group deal.

It'd be really nice if custommaxima.com produced 'just' the clear reflector. I'm going to be doing the same mod soon.

and yes...I know there are some clear reflectors for sale in the for sale forum, just wanted something more 'professionally' (no offense) done...

I think apc DID manufactured red/clears for 95-96 for a limited time. When i didn't have a maxima i saw it on their product page. (two years ago). that site seems to sell them and if they do why not get a GD there? the price is already reasonable $156.

If you don't want to blow the $190 on Clear Tails from CustomMaxima.com another solution is to go to a local junkyard and see if they got any 4th Gens and just take the Tail Lights out of them. I can't imagine them being more than $40-$50, maybe less, and you'd have a set to "experiment" with. If you do it right, you can swap them on your own car. If you fudged it up, at least you'd know what not to do next time.
