My Maxima w/ PRCAI was mistaken for a diesel !!

After a lil run with a Civic, the guy drivin said "Was that your car growling?? It sounds cool as sh*t, I was lookin for a Diesel truck running behind us though!"

I just laughed and said "thanks, i guess?!?!"

Yep.

well no, I took off the lower CAI tube to make a hybrid. I noticed the gains over the cai in the upper end power and also didnt seem to lose much low end from switching. I loved the sound of the cai but I choose performance over sound.

my theory is with the CAI you will gain the little bit of low end that you lose by adding the VI (from what I've heard low and mid seems a little bit softer (or maybe thats because the VI is running open all the time at the moment)

turbo is a good way to fix that problem also

When my gf still had her modded 93 Altima 5sp w/pr cai, I would take it (and her!) to autox. I get comments asking what kinda swap I had in the altima. Many said it sounded like a v8...very agressive...mind you, it's just a 2.4L I4!

best comment was from a friend...asking when I got the supercharger installed. Haha.

yeh, my friends are always telling me my car sounds good at open throttle. i always tell them that it isn't exactly an annoying NOPI muffler and that they should get place racing as well.

Hmm...so a kid in a Civic thinks your 3.0L DOHC V6 with a cold air intake sounds like a friggen Diesal Truck!? I'd hate to see what he'd say to an OHV Chevy 5.7L with a CAI..."dude, your Camaro sounds like an Oil Tanker!"

How's it hybrid???

Pop chargers - have no piping which means less restriction on air flow
However they get their hot air from the engine

CAI - Get cooler air from outside the engine bay, however the long piping is said to cause highend loss.

So a hybrid would be a combination of both, namely an intake that had little in the form of restrictive piping, and was fed cool dense air.

Hybrid - has piping and gets air from the engine bay (is this a hybrid of the negatives of pop and CAI) Lets call it what it is, a short ram intake.

Short ram intakes were replaced with popchargers because if your getting hot air you might as well not restrict it with piping, and it was replaced by CAI because since you have extra piping you might as well get cooler air.

Can someone please tell me the thinking behind the advantages of short ram intakes (I guess for maximas their called hybrids) does the midpipe smooth out the air flow? I ask this because the midpipe was designed for the CAI, I am pretty sure it was not researched and developed to produce optimal gains when used by itself. So has anyone thought about the research and development, or is it just a cool sounding idea, that is easy to make and sell?

The design can be made into a true hybrid if there were just a couple of other components. A true hybrid should involve fabrication of new components to maximize efficiency, not just buying parts that were designed for somthing else and putting them together.

Sorry to get off topic but I have wondered about this for some time, the PR CAI seems to be the best design out right now (which should give you ideas on how to make a true hybrid intake) a great sound on top of that sounds like a great deal.
