Gosh, that is nasty... makes me want to slow down. I sure wish I knew the story behind it, I can't even figure out how you could do all that!!

I would think that he or she drifted into a pole of some sort at a high rate of speed.

side impact

My g/f (96 se) got hit my a drunken truck driver who ran a red light as she was waiting to turn left. If someone would have been in the back seat on the driver side, they would have probably died. Maxima's ( like all cars I guess ) do not seem to perform well in side impact crashes. They just seem to break in on the sides easier than on other cars. My mom's neon was slammed on the side driver side door (the guy was slowing down from 100+ mph in the rain and hit her anywhere from 25-45 MPH), but the bottom frame of the car held it's place and she survived because of it. Maxima's bottom frame ( from what I've seen ) does not hold up that well. Front end crashes Maxima's perform great ( imo ). I was in one (96 se) at 50mph and the interior was perfect, the crumple zones worked and it compressed the pressure to the point of impact and did not spread. Granted this picture is after the jaws of life and all that, but just take notice when you look at Maxima's that are hit from the side how easily they seem to bend in. Just something to think about I guess.

That's scary. I wonder what happened to that. I also wonder if anyone lived through it?

Re: WOW

I've been hit twice in my 97 se...one on the side (passenger fender) and the second i was rear ended. Some guy in an old jeep hit me going 50 (stupid f*** shouldn't be on the road) and hit the passenger side fender (the part above the front wheel). My car took the impact well...the fender was crushed, but the axle didn't break and i was fine, during and after. It wasn't exactly on the side, but i think maximas are safe and stable during accidents.

WOW

That looks exactly like my Mazda 626 that was smashed by a '95 Jetta. Too bad my Maxima doesn't have side airbags.

In Canada (and maybe elsewhere) there's a model called the ES.
