lug nut question

will the offset 5x114.3 fit on a 96 max?

That's not offset, that's lug size, but it is correct for the Maxima. Make sure the offset is between 35 - 43 as well.

what do these numbers mean on a tire 205/40/17??

thats the wheel size in 17 inches. And the 205 is the thickness i think, and its low profiles.

That is the tire size (width and height). Sorry though, those are WAY off for the Maxima. For a 17"x7" rim you are looking at 225/50-17, and for a 17"x8" rim you are looking at 235/45/-17.

- 1st number (205) is with tire width in millimeters
- 2nd number (40) is sidewall height as percentage of tire width
- 3rd number (17) is in inches

Now who can tell me why tire manufacturers use mixed units??

I think the correct term should be "bolt pattern" or "lug pattern" Lug size is more like M12 X 1.5.
