ECU Chip or No?

I've been hearing alot of hype about the ECU chips for our Maximas, but I wonder if the rumors are true that they actually take away from the life of the engine.

Anyone heard any negative concerns surrounding the ECU chips that are supposed to make your car faster?

Do they even have a chip yet for the '97 Maximas yet?

Cheston has an awesome write up about JWT's ecu. I don't think that anything will reduce the life of the engine. It just depends on how you drive... that's what reduces the life.

well ive read cant remember where that it can cause your car to run hotter. but that was with camaro z28. dont know if this is the case with the max i think it had something to do with the fan not coming on until a certian temp. and i beleive the only time you would have this problem is in say traffic jams (stop and go traffic)due to poor air circulation.

WoW! If that's true then why even bother with purchasing the chip when there are other Mods that will give you the same gain in HP?

Hardly seems worth the effort if you ask me..

The big buzz with the ECU's is that JWT removes the redline and rev-limiter which really doesn't do much for the regular maxima with the collector. But, with the VIM/MEVI which gives you power all the way through the redline...and doesn't drop off the ECU is an excellent mod. I bring it out to 7200 RPM's, and it pulls all the way...and excellent compliment to the VIM/MEVI.

I do my best , but I do have to say that there has been a bigger interest in the ECU now that more people have the VI.
