Got Keyed, want to try to fix scratch...
I go tkeyed on my driver's door while en route to NC to pick up my wife's best friend and get her away from an unstable guy. We stopped at a resturant, went in, and 45 minutes later came out to see a scratch on the driver's door. Long story short, the same person was in the car beside us the whiole time, but "saw nothing." He then sped away when I threatened to call the cops, and I was too slow to get a plate number.
Well, now I want to try to get the scratch out. It is fairly deep, but is still "in the paint," sop to speak.
I have some OEM touch up paint. I just bought the car this summer and do not know what surfact protectants are on there.
What do I need to do first to strip the surface and prep it for the best adherence of the touch up paint?
What is the best way to appy it? The brush, a toothpick, what?
What order do I do things like sand and use rubbing compound? What do I aplly the compund with? What (if any) grit sandpaper will I need?
BTW, the paint is PB metallic (see sig), just in case the metallic nature of the paint makes a difference.

phenryiv,
Try using some scratch out stuff, not any compound stuff, b/c you might rub away something you don't.
If you want to use a toothpick, you can. Unfortunately I haven't had any luck with those. I went to an art store and bought a very very little brush, and practiced before I put the T.P. on my car. Let me know if you need some help!

get all the wax off your car using some dish washing detergent.......and then apply a very small amount of the touchup paint........use like a drop at a time.......a small amount of rubbing compound will work as well, but it might screw up the finish.

How will the rubbing compound mess up the paint? I am a novice at those type products...

I kinda liken it to pasty sandpaper.
Now, POLISHING compound isn't as harsh as rubbing compound.

So which one will I want to use after using touch-up paint?

I would only use Rubbing if you want get your car repainted.
Meguiars has this Scratch X stuff.. it kinda works.
Also, there are polishing compounds that aren't as abraisive as rubbing. Just make sure to wax afterwards b/c it strips it right off

See this here:
That is bad stuff, completely took off my clear coat. Fortunately I had to get the car repainted for an accident a couple months later (some guy on a rice rocket T boned me)
This stuff MIGHT be better:

This is the stuff I used, but it's just OK: http://shop.ivalueinternet.com/washt...duct_id/41.htm
This also may good, but it may be too light for what you have: http://shop.ivalueinternet.com/washt...oduct_id/3.htm

Use your insurance. If you do use your insurance, it would have been better if the entire vehicle was scratched. This way the whole car gets a nice even, new, fresh coat of paint.
It happens all the time!
