Just got my y pipe in for my 99. Looks nothing like the picture in the catalog. Anyone else have a 2 piece y-pipe for >99 max? Stillen people say it's the right part, not that I doubt them, and It will fit either with the second piece or without it.

I felt like I needed a giggle, so I called Stillen's monkeys for tech support. What a joke! The reason I called them is because the pipes are definitely not equal length as stated in the catalog. In fact, if have to use both pieces then 1 pipe will be at least 12" longer! Tech guy doesn't know jack from jill and gets tired of me and passes me on to the sales rep, Sean. Sean is more helpful and reasures me that it is the right part. He goes on to say that that is the best that (closest) they can get to equal length pipes and that they will try to fix the catlog for next year. Yeah. Sure. What ever. I vow (once again) not to buy from the over-charging, false advertising jokesters again, or until I want something from them. Should have just made the pipe myself!

the stillen y-pipe is now a two piece set so it will fit any 95-99 max.

Woe... =P >>

The pipe you have is the second generation stillen pipe. Its universal. It will fit 95-99 cars and I believe federal emissions cars. The second generation pipe not only fits very well and performs well.. but its not as noisy as other pipes. No bees in a can sound from the flex pipe. Only a slight hiss. Be glad you didn't get the first generation pipe that made rattling sounds. Would you rather have version 1.0 or 2.0?

How much did U pay?

I've been thinking of getting either a Cattman or Stillen Y-pipe.
Would you please let us know about your instalation expirience and noise level in cabin.

What other mods do you have? B-pipe? Cat? muffler?

Thanks.

Re: How much did U pay?

Paid 275 for two pipes. I bought two at one time. Bought direct from Stillen.

First, let me warn you. The stillen piece is chromed mild steel. Not stainless steel like the catman. But that shouldn't matter much. So what if it won't stay shiny forever. Nobody sees it. The price is right.

As for cabin noise. If you turn the radio on. There really is no cabin noise. With the radio off and the window or sunroof open on a very quiet day or night.. You may hear a slight hiss.. When you rev the car in neutral past 4k you will hear a rattle from the flex pipe. But thats only if you rev back and forth. You don't hear it if you're driving normally..

Install.. I wimped out and didn't do it myself.. =) Paid to have it installed.. One hour of labor.. not bad at all.. They said that the front bolts were really hard to get to. I believe them. Probably not something you want to attempt if you don't have the right tools.

install

I installed it in less than 2 hours. I only used the 1 piece. My car is only a year old and the old exhaust came of pretty easy. No lost skin. New y went in easier than the old came out. If I had a lift, it could have only been an hour. Sounds good. I have Stillen intake & GReddy cat back. Very deep growl. I'm really diggin the extra power.

To reply to the earlier post, I wasn't compaining about the new design, but rather the catalog. It does state equal length pipes, which as I stated before, is not true.

Did you get some kind of deal? I have never seen a price that low, even from stillen.

2 pics of the Stillen Y Pipe:

This was one of the last sets that were at the original price. Stillen recently raised it by ~ $25, so don't expect to find them @ those prices you've seen before

Get the stainless Y-pipe

I ordered Stillen's Y-pipe (poorly chromed mild steel)...the welds looked like turkey ****...plus it was the wrong unit...back it went...spent extra money...now have a TIG welded stainless unit fabricated by Max-Rev in Tempe, AZ...480-867-8078

I don't live where they salt the roads but if I did there's no way I'd consider the Stillen unit at any price. I doubt that chrome job would last one winter.

MaxRev SS Y

hey Cloud, how much was the SS Y from ur friends @ MaxRev?
was it aspecial order? or do they have this things ready to ship? I would give the a call but, it's a bit early. And their WWW is not finish yet.

You guys outwest are lucky to have such shops near you. Here in NYC area there are few quality shops, outnumbered by wannabes. Is mainly a trial by error thing.

Hey Alfredo,
I've had the Y-pipe for awhile and don't want to guess on what I paid. Max-Rev's # is 480-967-8078.

Max-Rev also made the CAI that's on my car and the brake kit that I've got on front. They've been good to deal with.

As a side note; a Max-Rev modified Toyota Supra took first place last weekend at Las Vegas. It is street class and is a daily driver which the owner drove to the meet from Phoenix. Even with a quite muffler system he still ran 10.5 @ 140 and this is a heavy car. You should see the twin turbo system Max-Rev put on this car; it's beautiful.
