Re: 97-99 Headlight

Just a guess:

4th gen housings are single reflector, so we use a single bulb, dual filament.

Other cars use multi-reflector and use separate bulbs for low and high beam.

Could this be what he meant?

Actually, I picked up a set of regular clears, I just haven't gotten around to updating my sig yet. Also did the blue LED setup in the window switches and meter illumination.

I wanna keep my stock sig pic for a while more just so I can remember how it used to look. Thanks for asking though ...

You talking about your tailights? You mentioned Altezzas so I guess so.

http://www.custommaxima.com/ has a bunch of different Altezzas. I think the smoked one would look good on a black Maxima.

To each their own, if you like Altezzas, then get them. I've got red/clears because I prefer simplicity. Since I have a white car and I'm not a fan of chrome, Altezzas were not my choice.

I put the LEDs in in June, they haven't burnt out yet but I must say, my car was not driven for 2 months so they actually haven't been in very long. They were easy to install, the hardest part weas removing all the trim pieces to get to the meter. That was a pain, I didn't want to break or scratch anything, so I took my time. I spent a total of 1 week putting it in because I only had a 1/2 hour of daylight after work and my Max was my daily driver, so I drove around for a little while with a ripped up dash.

The reflector part of the headlamps is the parabolic surface behind the lens that "reflects" the light from the bulb, out through the lens and onto the road. If you look at the '97+ headlamps (whether they are HB1, HB2 or D2R/HB3), the lens is totally clear (and made of plastic), while the reflector has many facets, or pieces, each reflecting some of the light in a different direction. All of the Maximas prior to '97, have a etched glass lens...etched meaning the glass has facets cut into it. THe reflector in these lamps are totally smooth, because the light is "spread out" by the lens and not by the reflector. Both types of headlamps need to diffract light because a smooth parabolic shaped reflector alone would put out light in a circle only.

They make Altezza headlights now?

Didn't ever hear of it ... not to mention, red bulbs for headlights? I think I'm right on this one. He's talking about his tails.

4th Gens from '97 to '99.5 have HB1 (9004 bulb) multi-reflector type headlamps.
