For you SC people with pulleys... What exactly does 3.48 pulleys mean...

So... going with a smaller pulley.. ex. 3.48 to 3.33 will increase boost..
Is there any problems associated with doing this for daily driving? If you only get about 7 lbs from 3.48 why not just drive on the 3.33 pulleys everyday...???? Thanks

BTW it is daily driven, it just makes life a little more exciting when you increase the boost/change out the pulley.

From what I've read from other posts...
Going from stock to 3.48 pulleys, it's good to about 10-15 HP unless someone can correct me on that.. that's what I thought I read on here somewhere....Another question though, to my understanding, isn't it supposed to make your electrical system run better because you're not using so much power to run everything. With smaller pulleys, ex. 3.48 to 3.33 wouldn't it somehow over work your electrical system or am I thinking of something else??? Vapors, if you can answer this, you're the S**T...

The crank pulley is the driving force. The alternator has it own pulley, so does the SC, powersteering and AC. As long as the crank pulley is the same, the rest are independent of each other.

Moving from pulley to pulley adds only about 15 hp to the wheels, however(THIS IS IMPORTANT) it allows the sc to spool up more rapidly. When it spools earlier it helps your acceleration. The sc pulley, much like 1max2nv said, does not really help withthe electrical because they are independent of each other. Hope I helped.
BTW. 10-15 at the wheels doesnt sound like much, however with the sc spooling much more rapidly, allowing you to accelerate faster, it feels much more powerful.

Hey steve,
I was seriously thinking about that. I was just unsure if we could handle that boost without doing some tranny work. Would I need to do anything to prep the car for it? Our tranny has had no problems with the upgraded boost and we do abuse it(no neutral drops though LOL). Do you think we could handle it? I heard that I would have to change the plugs. Our fuel is handling it, we are running very rich right now. Let me know what you think. We are going to change the pulley very shortly and would like as much input as possible especially from people like you or loren or others who have changed out the pulley. Email me sometime too or do you have icq?
