Does anyone with a 97-99 have red out tails? Please post a pic.

I am thinking of changing my tails, and of course I want the red/clear tails, but don't have money to buy them right now. And I'm not talented enough to do it myself.

So, instead, I was thinking of doing the red out mod (tinting the orange part red with either red vinyl or red paint). Does anyone with a 97-99 have this done on their car? If so, please post a pic. Thanks!

BTW, I DID search, but only found pics of the red out tails on 95-96 Maximas.

BULL**** you searched, go to member search and pick on at random. I bet that every other 4th gen has red/clears, more 97-99 than 95-96...

Why don't you read the post before you post a lame a$$ reply. I know it's difficult, but maybe if we try really hard we can understand it together...

I was ASKING for pictures of red out tails, not red/clear tails. And if you search for it, there are mostly 95-96 Maximas with it.

Thank you.

Who sells just the inserts. I have red/clear right now, but my tails were crack reacently. This time, I would like to change the lenses in the revers lights as well to match everything up. I know couple people did that, so please post some pics.

Yea, but I want the red out tails, not the red/clear tails. I think if you search the for sale forum, there is a guy selling the inserts. Try this thread... he mentioned doing your tails for you, but I think in another thread he mentioned doing just the inserts (unless I am getting people confused): http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ighlight=tails

But again, this thread is for the red out tails, not the red/clear tails... if anybody with a 97-99 has a pic of the red out tail mod, please post it.

heheh... how about not.
Hey, where did you get the vinyl to do your tail lights? I think the vinyl would look better than if I actually painted them (and its not permanent).

Thanx for the info, i also think as well that you should do the entire swap, then just painting over them. If you like, I can do them for you for very cheap, let me know if you are interested.

the reflector is yellow.. i wouldn't want to paint he glass on the tails red.. and if you are going to do it right.. you will have to open up the lights.. which you would just do red/clear anyway..

i know what you are talking about.. like the 5th Genners spray the paint in the hole where the bulb goes.. you can try that.. but it seems risky.

Yea, I think painting is going to be too risky. I really like how nadir_s used the red vinyl to cover the orange part, I like how it looks. And I think it'll look OK on the 98, because it looks good on the 95-96, which is basically upside-down 97-99 tail lights. I just need to figure out where to get the red vinyl.

Hey nadir, where did you get the red vinyl?

Since your doing so much taillight work anyway, just do red/clear. They look better. Not risky either...you can find about 25 writeups on the .org.

well the vinyl looks great in pictures... great from 10ft away... but any closer and you can notice a little bubbling. You can make it so the bubbles are gone, but i was lazy and only tried once and left it on. It really takes some effort to heat and stretch out the vinyl so it won't bubble. I will try this again tho to make it perfect.

I bought the vinyl at a local hobby store... it's 3 bucks for a 1 long film of red translucent vinyl tape. The cool part about it is that 1 film sheet, cut in half, can cover the entire amber section.

i agree completely. i copied nadir_s' method as best i could, but never was very happy with the final outcome. the color match is PERFECT, and from more than about 15 feet away they look great. but the edges were very hard to get sealed completely, and you can see bubbles in them...especially when it rains. even the spots where i did get rid of the bubbles, there are still wrinkles.

oh yeah, i also melted my taillamp with the damn heatgun.

do the tail the same way as the red/clear, but use transperent red paint(i think optauto.com has it) and paint the clear piece. I tinted mine and it worked great as it sould for you. i got pics on the homepage.
