I don't want to use the dome light, I want light to come out from under the dashboard when I open the doors. I want the neons to act like the dome light; on when the doors open and off when they are closed, then have an override switch so i can turn them on when ever the ignition is on. I have the ignition switch wired but I can't find a lead from the door switches, or to the dome light. If you think its a stupid idea, I respect your opinion so respect mine, if you can help please do, otherwise don't bother posting about how you think its a stupid idea.
Thanks for the help

Hey dude I have blue neons under my dash so im not flaming on you....mine are just hooked to a switch that i mounted in my change holder on the console...I'm not totally sure where that wire is though...inside the door is my best bet..id just tell you to wire them to a constant and turn them on when u open the door. Why don't you like the dome light?

Just wire the positive to a constant power source and tap the negative to the door pin switch but... make sure it gets triggered by every door when you open it. If you have an alarm just look for the wire for the door pin switch.

I want to be able to run them when im in the car too. So should I just split the negative wire going to the ground on the switch to another ground with a toggle between it and another ground? Also, I have an alarm system, do you know which is the negative ground on the switch? There are three lines running to it, a Black a red and a white with blue stripes. The Red and Black when connected make the lights active, but by wiring it into just the driverside door does this mean they will only come on when the driverside door is opened? What if i have a chick and i want to get her in first, will they come on when i open the pass door too??

Update

So I got it all wired up the door switch wire is the red one if anyone is curious. My new problem however is now I have to have the lights wired to a constant power source so my switch to run them when I'm in the car makes them stay on all the time(car turned on or not). Ideally I want the lights to shut off when I take out my key and turn on when I open the door. Is this posible with out adding another door switch for power too?? Any ideas would be a great help. Thanks Ryan

Yes.. It's possible.. Instead of wiring it to a constant power source, look for the accessory wire (has power when the key is on acc or running) located by the ignition switch.

I realize this. The problem is the keys are not in the ignition when you open the door. You have to have a constant power source to lights so when the ground is tripped at the door the lights go on. I think the only way to make this work is to add another door switch that controls the flow of constant power to the lights so when the door is shut the lights don't have power and when it opens the switch is closed and power flows. Hey I'm a poet.... -) Thanks for the help.

check the clock

hey,
something new here, if you get a chance post some pictures. now back to your question, one of the clock wires have constant power source, get a multimeter to check. that is why your clock have memory. hope this helps. if you need to know which wire just ask and i'll post a picture or something.
