HVAC Blower Fan positions 1,2,3

My '95 heat/A/C blower fan works only in position 4. I replaced the resistor block accessed under the dash, and for a few hours all 4 blower settings worked. What should I troubleshoot or replace that causes the resistor block to fail? This is my 2nd replaced resistor block. The first replacement worked for 6 months of Florida summer A/C.

Thanks for the help.

Root Cause ?

Hi Clee130,

Your thread is informative about the resistor block location, failure mode characteristics and replacement, but my original post has to do with the root cause(s) of resistor block failure. I have replaced the block twice. The last replacement worked only a couple of hours before failure.

Thanks, and hopefully, someone knows the cause of failure, and can suggest my next course of action.

Jim, your fan/blower motor may actually be pulling to much current and causing premature failure of that resistor block.

Your next moave may be to replace the fan motor. Try a junk yard, I'm sure you can find a good working one there.

Thanks, The removed motor was tight and difficult to turn. Some 100 PSI air and 3 in 1 oil fixed the almost seized motor. Now working in all 4 speeds.

Much thanks...
